I don't know why I just thought about this but did Rutgers make a mistake not hiring Chris Partridge as its director of recruiting operations? For those who do not know Chris Partridge was the former HC at Paramus Catholic who left and was slated to be Rutgers Director of Recruiting...Until Rutgers unexpectedly rescinded the offer. Since Partridge was hired by Michigan Partridge has brought over Jabrill Peppers and Juwann bushel-Beatty. Rushan Gary has Michigan high on his list. So what does the scarlet nation think. Do you think we would have been better off with Partridge or are we better off without him?

No, the guy wanted Michigan all along and was only using Rutgers as leverage.

That's the thing. I think we tried to hire him. We only rescinded the offer once it was clear he wasn't going to take the position... he was just using us to bid up Michigan. Sort of like a "you're fired" followed by "you can't fire me because I quit" scenario.

That said, I think it would have been highly beneficial to the program had he come to RU. I've long said that all this debate about whether Flood is the right coach for RU or not fails to center on the issue. Flood is a fine coach. What we need are one or two top notch recruiters on staff.

Peppers and Bushnell picked Michigan in 2014 well before Partridge left P.C.H.S.... "This Year " is his initial year as the recruiting guy...And he leveraged that job
with the hope Michigan would bite and they did...Glad that Flood didn't go along with this crap...We will do just fine with E.J. Barthel and several others.

What's not mentioned in the article is the bad blood that exists between Partridge and a lot of the Catholic school coaches in New Jersey. While Gary is indeed the prize of the 2016 class, how many other recruits would have been turned away from RU by their coaches because of Partridge?

Peppers was at Michigan before Partridge arrived. Gary is going SEC, so Michigan will not be happy he failed to deliver the reason he was hired. He was "demanding" Flood make him an assistant coach. Flood wouldn't do that and rightly so.
winner......might as well lock the thread.

This.

From what I remember when this story came out other local coaches were interviewed by the press and this would have done more harm than good.

Peppers made Partridge. He recruited all the kids to PC. He pretty much was the HC too. NJ kids are taking a look at Mich because of Peppers , and the name of Michigan and Harbaugh.

I'm not sure why we're beating this dead horse again.

This pretty much nails it.

I love these threads that start out, "I'm going to say 3 things that are completely wrong and want to know if everyone agrees that Flood is an idiot".

It takes all the guesswork out of whether I should put somebody on "Ignore".

If he's anything like Danny Partridge no. I don't like how Danny turned out in real life.

he was NOT Hired to bring in gary.

Michigan has always recruited and landed the very top NJ players for decades..it doesn't need a HS coach to do that. RU will be fine without him.

Did Rutgers make a mistake not hiring Chris Partridge?
Of course it did. Chris would have brought his pear tree with him and everyone knows what that would mean
After pointing out all the benefits Rutgers offers,Flood could end his pitch with this:

I don't see a rush of excitement toward Rutgers by NJ coaches. The Partridge situation is just a convenient excuse to give NJ high school coaches a free pass in their lack of support toward encouraging their best players to Rutgers.

Besides being wrong on the timing of the Peppers recruitment and Partridge hire, this subject has been beaten to death previously. Why the need to raise it yet again or are you just feeling the need to be a putz.
Hey I was asking to see what the consensus is. Sorry I asked. What a dick!

You did say he brought in Peppers and JBB which was clearly wrong. Is it unexpected to rescind an offer if the candidate continues to interview for other jobs?

Not unless the marching band needed an extra drummer for the inevitable halftime musical tribute to the Partridge Family
