DiNardo on Ash and Kill

by the way flood was also a St. Frances graduate and Mason who always had a grudge against RU actually softened a bit

Mason was pretty negative yesterday. RU was the worst offense and defense in the B1G without pointing out that we played a very rough conference schedule which skews those numbers. Seemed like a d$ck to me. DiNardo has always looked at the bright side of things. If we win 4 or 5 this year, it will be a huge step in the right direction.

That's St. Francis. Same high school that my Father went to ( and Joe Torre).

Mason may have been in the mix at one time. He is a local NJ guy who coached at Colonia high school before moving on to the college ranks. It's interesting to see that he was an assistant at Ohio State before getting the head job at Minnesota. Sounds like a Schiano path to a good head coaching position. It's nice to see that some of the local announcers like DiNardo and Mason often speak well about Rutgers as they both realize the potential we hope Ash can fulfill.

I didn't think mason and Dinardo spoke well of us yesterday. Mason basically was saying we stunk and dinardo said the best thing he saw was jerry kill lol. And yeah I am glad they were honest

Wasn't it Dinardo last year who said we would surprise some teams? If my memory is correct, he may be shying away from a similar prediction this year so as not to look foolish, even though I actually think we will surprise a few teams this year. Luckily preseason predictions/observations are often worthless (including my own!).

Don't recall any or many saying that about Mehringer or the QB competition. Your questioning Kill because of the Mehringer failure does not hold water.

What's the process?
1. Solid recruiting. So far, considering our last 2-3 years, check.
2. Solid strength and conditioning. Check.
3. Sold nutrition. Check.
4. A tireless work ethic. Check.
5. Integrity and straight shooter. Appears to be check.
6. Experienced and seasoned coaches. Check (not last year).
7. Demand for improved facilities. Check. The previous guy seemed oblivious to our facilities shortcomings.

How do you realistically evaluate 2 and 3? Fans of every program always say -- this new S&C guy makes the last guy look like he was from the 1930s and so forth. At best, you can hope to make these things not a disadvantage. But it is really hard to judge them.

8. Showing an upward trajectory. We shall see in the next 3.5 months.

Judging 2 based on a new weight room and the fact that Kenny Parker played at Florida and was S/C at tOSU. He should know what he is doing more than the last guy.

3 is pretty easy. RU had no/minimal nutrition program and Ash hired a nutritionist for the team.

Weight room is more for recruiting than anything else, I think.

Again, with 2 and 3, at best you can say this brought Rutgers up to par with others (if they were truly behind in those areas), but these get more filed under the all change is good change in the off-season kind of thinking (e.g., all positive weight gain is muscle and all weight loss means more speed -- and no other team is doing the same thing...)

But if 2 and 3 were not part of the process or well behind the process of our peers, why is it not now part of the "process" of rebuilding and putting RU on par with our peers? Because if we were woefully behind in nutrition, weight room facilities and strength and conditioning, it will take time and be part of the process of rebuilding the team, no?

It's amazing how people on TV are "good" when they say nice things about us and "bad" or "haters" when they say bad things about us. How about judging them on how ACCURATE the things they say are? Or their ability to use the English language, as they are in the communications business.

I don't care if Mason resented Rutgers. Hiring Dick Anderson seemed like a great move at the time. We wanted to be like Penn State (this is pre-you know what and pre-recruiting felons) so you hire a Penn State coordinator. And DiNardo's coaching prowess is something less than Lee Corso's.

Ash and Kill will not be chased out of town by anybody for going 3-9 this year. Especially not Politi, who, for all of his faults (real and assumed) is not unaware of the challenges here. Now, if those nine include a bunch more 78-0s, that could be another story. But even then, very few people with more than a passing interest in or knowledge of Rutgers will be getting out the torches and pitchforks.

This constant need to set up straw men to knock them down is one of the worst things about message boards.
