That line plus that Instagram or Twitter or whatever...he has a really crappy attitude. You can't deny it.

If we concede 14 or 21 in the first quarter to Iowa we are not winning. That should be evident.

Big boy sports require big boy pants.

He could have -- and should have -- handled that better.

Instead here we are discussing possible poor attitude to match his poor play.
That goes both ways. Many on this board can't seem to wear their big boy pants and act like children.
As much as I would like to see better QB play, the kid is not a professional so no need harp on his perceived attitude with the media. He didn't have a good game. He and the coaches know it. If he doesn't fix it there will be a new starting QB before the season ends.

So a QB said winning is the most important thing and you're ripping him? Hell, I agree with him.

Me too. By the way Syracuse was winning 17-0 and then got smoked. What would you rather have, a team that starts fast or one that finishes strong? I know many of you want every quarter to be great, but that's rare. Lastly, who is happier today, the Browns or Ravens?

You want a cocky QB so I am not worried. What you want him to cry for bad throws? He only needs to please Ash not us.

It doesn't go both ways though.

He should expect the worst from the fans. That too comes with the territory.

He is the starting QB of a P5 football program. Fair or unfair, he is under the microscope and is held to a higher standard than most. It's part of the deal. Even Tom Savage -- in retrospect -- realized this.

Well if he thinks winning is more important than figuring out why they start in a hole every week let's see him get behind 35 0jand see if he can smart his way back in.
I think Laviano needs to figure out how to play better at QB and let the coaching staff
make sure RU doesn't start out games in the hole.
If that means sitting Chris, Laviano sits because he didn't find a way to improve his game, not anything the coaching staff is supposed to do.

Its not productive, AT ALL, to pursue this.
What does "productive" have to do with anything? We don't coach. We don't recruit. We watch and comment, and as long as the boundaries of good taste are observed, anything is fair game.

And yes, his act has worn thin. As have the slow starts. We're talking Howard and New Mexico at home, after all. He should at least fake being concerned.

Chris Ash stated emphatically that he was not concerned wrt Howard and New Mexico. Do you want Coach Ash to fake it too?

He should but he didn't. The kid is under a lot of pressure. He doesn't handle it that well, as we all know. The last thing we should be doing as fans, is stirring the pot to make it more controversial then it is. The last thing we need is some BS artilce in the ledger about fans not liking the QB (you know its coming) and our already shaky QB getting questions from the media about how the fans don't like him.

I wish the fans would take the high road on this one. He may not be the QB we all want, but he sure as shit is trying his hardest, and we sure as shit don't have anyone better. Its not his fault he isn't Teddy Bridgewater.

After the game on WCTC's Fifth Quarter Laviano was asked if the slow start the past 3 games is a concern. He answered in a snobbish arrogant way saying, we won the game so I really don't think that question is relevant so I'm not concerned about it. What kind of answer is that cause there better be a concern because Iowa is no Howard or New Mexico and if he thinks RU can come back down 21 then he has a lot to learn.
I listened to that interview and his tone and attitude was cringe worthy. I think it was somehing like "uhhh to be honest we won so its really irrelevant"

Very concerned about his use of a dangling participle. Otherwise, no much

In general, fans are most critical of the QB who's playing. The backup assumes more and more mythical status the longer he sits on the bench.
My first football memory is watching Phil simms get booed off the field for Hostetler. Then booing Hostetler for simms. In the same quarter. It's this area we live in.

I don't necessarily care what a kid says an interview, and I would need to see it to really comment.

I'm more interested in his play on the field.

When a college qb responds with an answer that I think your question is irrelevant and so what we won the game then yes I am concerned. Take the high road and respond with respect. Combine that with the way he acted toward the RU fans and alumni last year he just rubs me the wrong way.
Hm. I wonder how you or others here would fare being put on the spot like that. I bet there would be some statements made that were later regretted. Laviano needs to be a good QB. He doesn't need to be a good public speaker.

Basically, I couldn't care less what he says if he starts playing lots better than he's played so far this season.

During his playing days, most baseball fans , but especially the press, didn't like the way Ted Williams answered questions (when he dared to) or treated fans (he spat at them) , but Ted Williams could hit. Laviano can't hit. End of story. OP is piling on.

You are comparing Ted Williams to Chris Laviano?

Not a bad comparison, Laviano's completion % vs. New Mexico this past Saturday wasn't that much different than Ted Williams batting avg in a good season, lol.

This is false. if you listen to his pregame interviews he said he was concerned with those 2 teams.

No, you are misunderstanding. I was referring to his being concerned/alarmed about the slow starts and being behind. While not the exact same answer, the narrative is the same. RU won the game and that is what matters. Here is the original point I responded to:
And yes, his act has worn thin. As have the slow starts. We're talking Howard and New Mexico at home, after all. He should at least fake being concerned.

Here is Ash's response, which seems to be in agreement with what Laviano said:

Q. Obviously you come back and win the game, but the first quarters at this point, is it enough to be an alarming trend for you?
COACH ASH: No, I'm not alarmed. I knew this was going to be tough because of the option. I've played enough option teams that it usually takes a little bit to get settled in and get used to the speed of the game. They threw out a lot of different formations and plays in that first quarter that we had not seen defensively out of two years of film study.

So my hat's off to them. They did a great job of coming up with an opening script and getting us off balance, and it took us a little time to get used to the new formations and some of the new plays that they were running. And once we did and settled in, we started to make some plays.

Obviously one touchdown in the final three quarters of the football game, I believe, and that says a lot to our coaches and our players, to be coachable and make the adjustments necessary on the sideline to get settled down.

Again offensively we started slow in the first quarter. Again, those guys, they run an odd front. They run a lot of six-man pressure, a lot of cover zero, and again I knew going in that they would make some plays, some big plays against us; and if we just kept going, we were going to make some big plays against that style of defense and that's what happened.

And then obviously special teams, Janarion Grant, another big week, another big play that just changes the momentum of the football game, and can't say enough about our return units right now and the way that those guys prepare and what happens on game day with them.

They run a lot of six-man pressure, a lot of cover zero
This is the problem right here. You have to have big plays in the passing game or you're going to face a stacked box and all the exotic blitz looks that come with it. And forget running into 8 & 9 man fronts -- that's exactly what they want you to do.

I remember hearing his response too and it was kind of off putting. Basically, "well we won so it doesn't matter."

I respect you as a poster, but may I respectfully request that you stop trying to stir the pot and start shit? His response was not "arrogant". He answered from the heart. IIRC, he also said he needed to play better and has to improve. Posting what you posted is like saying he said "Your mother wears army boots," and leaving out that the mother he is talking about is in the army.

EDIT/ADDITION: And yes, this is a fan board, where we tend to gripe about what is wrong. Every RU fan knows what the #1 problem has been this year--QB play. We know in particular the issues. But there have been more than enough instances of CL taking ownership of his bad play (even today), and to take a snippet of a long quote and say it was "snobbish" and "arrogant" not good IMO. Things will play out. But a Scarlet Nation angry mob public flogging for one sentence after a game is out of line. Peace out.
I have no respect for these posters. None at all. If Hobbs reads this board he should order John O to shut it down. Bunch of idiots.

Try this fans. Instead of sitting and waiting for us to make mistakes during the game so you can whine like girls, how about supporting the guys on the field. Where is the noise on 1st and 2nd down? We need to recruit better fans.

Alarmed is a strong word when talking about the slow starts. That implies you are on the verge of panic. Concerned by, unhappy with... I could see that.

Getting back to Laviano and Saturday - I was thrilled when he hit Harris on the deep ball on our 4th (?) possession. It confirmed that while I haven't been his biggest supporter, I definitely want whoever is playing for our team to play well. I was very happy to see him make that play and want to see more high-level play from him whenever he is playing.
