Look at them very intently. Don't care who comes back, we won't play defense with the current staff
From a statistical standpoint the offense is as bad or worse. the PPG is a bit padded based on the pace of play we play. We are equally inefficient offensively.
This is nothing new. Day 1 in the Jordan regime was a lack of attention to defense. Combine the roster he put together and the lack of attention and accountability on the defensive end. JJ Moore, Bishop Daniels, and Omari Greer came from other places where primarily they lost minutes because of defense.
This stuff is in the culture of the organization. It started with Moore, Jack and Mack and has continued with the new faces.

looked at the Northwestern game....we gave up 98 points in 65 possessions..over 1 1/2 points per possession. Anybody who says the players haven't quit is delusional. That is an unheard of number.

You're right in the sense that defense is about culture.
Over 50 years ago I played for a defensive guy in HS-------just demanded it.
Had a manager chart how many deflections we got in a game on defense.
It didn't matter if we got the ball or not .
Promised us if we got 25 plus we would win and we believed him.

Given that Eddie is a offensive oriented coach and our offensive efficiency has been epicly bad it might be more of an indictment on Eddie. In addition, you would think the bigs injuries would show up more on the defensive end.

The offense...I'll give a slight pass. We have NO ONE who can set a pick below without a big man. One of the least thought about things in an offense is the quality of screen set by the four and five. Well, we don't have any...so that hurts a lot more.
Empircally, when we aren't in give up mode, I think we actually create decent shots relatively to what we have in the past. Even without big to set screens and create space. We aren't making enough, but as a whole, I think we get more open looks than under Rice, Waters, and bannon. Maybe same number or close to Freddie....
Defensively, it's just down right putrid. Saturday was epically bad. To give up 98 points in 65 possesions (and I think they had two at the end of each half without a shot, so really 63) is beyond incomprehensible.
The shooting percentage defense as a whole is awful...and skewed in a lot of garbage time defense.

the offense works....we need to run it. the quality of the shots resulting from our offensive sets are 10X better than those outside it....doesn't always mean we make the shots or finish around the basket.

Other teams making 5 more 3's per game on avg which is 15pts just from behind the arc!
you can't shoot 40% on 2pt shots and make up that difference.

500 vs. 700! getting out rebounded by 12.5 boards per game.
IMO..these two are all you need to know.
