I guess he really wanted to fire things up with the below tweet just before he announced his hiring...

Oye

I just don't understand it, is there literally 0 interested RU grads

Maybe we are shooting for this:

Maybe he'll teach the student section how to do the RU chant. TTFP does a decent "We Are" and god knows how much complaining there is on this board about everything that goes on at the stadium- the videos, the music, the PA, the fan experience. Maybe someone is on to something here. RU would be silly to hire from within. The lack of tradition around here is appalling and no one knows what they're doing anyway:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The Family is getting bigger. Great to see the interest from PSU alumni (any school for that matter) to our program. We are Big Time!

Its on linked in not to shabby, but lets hear him swear his alegiance to RU!

I'll reserve judgement. The RVision one was a head scratcher because it just seems to make so much sense to offer that internship opportunity to a RU student. But a fan experience guy? From a program who knows a thing or two about fan experience? Maybe not a bad thing.

I don't remember anyone being upset when we got the Ohio State graphics guy. I think it's more of an issue with an internship position.

Bet he had experience because he had an internship at PSU. Such a novel idea for a university to give unpaid internships to their own students. It is such a good idea to give opportunities to the students to prepare them for the workforce. Maybe RU will do that soon.

HOW is Larry johnson doing? That went over well yeh? It goes both ways. Imagine god PR or junior marketing spot going to an OSU grad?

....how does this have anything to do with Larry Johnson?

1) I'd say plenty of Penn Staters fully appreciate the job LJ did to recruit, build a legacy of success on our DL, and keep the program together in 2013-2014. Certainly hope to beat him on a yearly basis, but he's a good guy. Don't believe me? His face is on a mural in downtown State College.

2) If you really don't see the difference between coaching hires and entry level admins in an athletic department I don't know what to tell you. Sad is the only way to describe threads like this.

3) One of my best friends is a PSU grad working as a manager in an athletic department in a P5 school. She doesn't care a bit about how the school does on the field, but she is qualified for the position and won the job fair and square same as this. There are probably plenty of Ohio State grads working for our athletic department. I don't know, because I have a life and don't stalk the Twitter and LinkedIn profiles of entry level hire. But I applaud them, because from every indication they do a great job promoting Penn State athletics. I'm sorry, but there is no way to rationalize being shook up over a hire like this as a socially well adjusted grown man.

RU has been doing that, especially the football program which has been "employing" student assistants since I've been in school in the early 2000s. Not sure what this post means.

I doubt it. RU is so overly concerned with not playing favorites since it is a State institution, they willingly overlook their own alums, to their own detriment.

Fresh new hire means fresh new ideas. I for one would enjoy a preseason pep rally featuring local artist, Fetty Wap.

Lol you don't stalk, but you come on this board to see & stalk posts here. I was on twitter, looked at news related to Rutgers, the tweet was in that search.......honestly do not go to PSU sites so you calling a stalker while on the Rustgers page is beyond ironic

I'll take your silence on any salient point of my post as an implicit admission that creating a thread to shame an entry level employee of your university is kinda creepy.

Also interesting that you know who Larry Johnson is without ever visiting a PSU board. Hmm...

Umm so thats where your salient point missed the mark. I have nothing against the invidividual. If you could could comphrehend what people are writing, you would understand that the people posting here have an issue with our University not hiring our own grads...so shuffle back to the cult, and keep believing PSU is the real victim.

I INTERNED in the RU athletic department as an at one point but elected to stop working in sports after graduation (I prefer having my weekend free to attend games as a fan).

To me, this is very troubling. I know first hand that there must have been at least 5-10 interns every year who would have been both qualified and thrilled to have a full time position like this (many of which had internships in professional sports organizations before Rutgers).

What's even more troubling is the department lured two interns into "full time" positions after graduating recently but under paid them to the equivalent of 20 hours a week. That's right, they hired TWO qualified RU interns after graduating and paid them each HALF of what one full time person would make. Their poor compensation eventually forced both to move to greener pastures.

Then to turn around and hire a Penn State grad? I simply don't get it.

Apparently, you do.

If this is the guy hired to replace Drew Robinson (who did a good job) Drew was a Syracuse alum... Don't let one weird hire cloud your vision of every other one going forward.

It means that the University in the shadow of the media capital of the world should have strong marketing and communications internship programs with a lot of bench strength so that they can promote from within. It would be great to know if Drew Robinson's or Jason Baum's interns have gone on to great jobs. If so, good for them. My point is that there should be a group of former interns who are as qualified as Mr. Roselli. If RU is not building that kind of bench strength, I think it is a problem.

And my post was sarcastic and snarky and related to the RVision intern hire.

A. This is an indictment of the education and training that Rutgers is providing, if they can't even trust their own alumni to handle these roles.

Or

B. These positions are so undesirable that any Rutgers alumnus is above applying for them, so they resort to anyone who is willing to take them, often Penn State grads.

I'm a half glass full kinda guy so I'll say it's B.

Are you upset that most of the people who clean the toilets around campus are also Penn State grads?

What is "B" Alex or, um, KingHigh......I can't wait to yell at this guy because we know the fan experience is not great yet at the stadium (This guy is going to hear about the lousy wifi) and now I can yell at someone and don't have to feel bad about it.

Plus-with his lack of quality education from Farmer U, we know these positions are underpaid and for mouth breathers. So best to get a good job somewhere else and let this guy live in someone's basement while doing the fan base's bidding. I like it-a position fit for a PSU grad. Well done RU!

who the f cares......some of you are laughable with you panties again wadded. Did you go beserk because Drew Robinson came from Syracuse. Its a non issue. Move on , do you only work with Rutgers employees at your job, are you only friends with Rutgers grads, do you know that there are thousands of Rutgers employees that did not attend Rutgers...oh the horror

I'm mean if you are a Penn State student were else are you going to intern other than the University? All the media jobs in Harrisburg? The big corporations located in Centre County?
Frankly our best media types ought to be interning in Manhattan.
