Johnson, Williams and Foreman form the basis of a lower-tier (not absolute bottom feeder) B10 basketball team if all come back and are healthy? If they do and 2 or 3 of the unproven/new folks develop or surprise over next year (Doorson, Diallo, and incoming class), do we have a potential NIT team the following year if all stay?

If the answer is no, we should fire EJ now.
If the answer is maybe, we should keep him one more year and see what happens.
If the answer is yes, extend him.

Thoughts?

So you are writing off Freeman and Sanders? because Williams and Foreman are not building blocks. They are decent pieces - role players that every team needs. Sanders and Freeman are building blocks.

Can you tell me if Sanders or Freeman will not be suspended going into camp?

ImBad - I do not think that is an NIT level team. Very, very weak in the middle. Freeman can be a solid piece, but he is relatively small for a power forward and opposing coaches will catch on quickly that he does not have any help from other big men. So he will be neutralized. Sanders is a very good player, but the rest of the team is, at best, comprised of individuals who are no more than complementary players on a low level BigTen team. I recognize some folks are excited by Laurent. I just do not see much there. Yes, he is athletic. He works hard. That said, he is a wing player who cannot shoot and has a limited handle.

I do appreciate that the players appear to hustle and play hard. That is not a substitute for the overall lack of talent for this level. I envision a 12 win team next year as a ceiling.

I will not get into the "Jordan issue" as that is a far more complex issue that transcends the wins/losses in my view. I am not a believer in Jordan, but I can understand why he may return. .

RU does not exist in a bubble. We have to deal with the rest of the Big 10. Is Eddie bringing talent as good as what everyone else is bringing in? He brought in Sanders..thats great but over half the teams in the league have a Sanders type impact player and probably 6 or 7 of them more than one. Talent wise RU will still be in the bottom 2 of the league with Northwestern. So all of a sudden Eddie must show he can overachieve which he hasn't in his first 3 years...and that's IF EVERYONE comes back which is a BIG BIG IF..and IF EVERYONE stays healthy another BIG BIG IF. So that might get us to 12 wins next year and flirtation with 15-17 wins Sanders junior year and then everyone is gone. Because Laurent has been able to scrap, play hard, and cleaup some shots near the basket and make some set plays he has been anointed a Big 10 force, yet he hasn't shown he can hit a shot other than a layup. Freeman is going to be a solid player but every other school has one like him that is at least as good or better. Then you go to the center spot and its a major major weakness and that's where a school like Northwestern has an Olah who negate any advantage RU might have at guard. Penn State has 3 Philly kids coming in...the 2nd best class in the Big 10.

One thing that can always be counted on his RU fans overrating their talent and not taking into consideration how it compares to the rest of the league

Maybe the Rice thing had something to do with that. I would love to see a quick fix but no one is writing a 100mm check to make it happen.

IMHO the Mike Rice thing is overblown as an excuse for RU BB failures as we complete Eddie's 3rd season On the Banks.

The previous Freddie Hill tenure wasn't great either. Remember Greg Echinique's eye injury that Freddie did his best to bury before the kid transferred to Creighton ?

Every new year is an opportunity for RU BB to hit the Reset button. And yet we continue to fail to change the downward spiral that has now reached epic status. So the proposed solution is to buy into more of the same failed coaching staff for next season ? I don't get it.

Eddie's body of work at RU is not based on injuries this season. It is based on the 3 year body of work that has made the RAC a ghost town in 2016.

I have confidence that Pat Hobbs will stop this madness after our expected quick out in the B1G Tournament. That is simply the right thing to do for RU fans.

Nit in 2 years?

in a best case scenario yes.....but what happens after that...do you think Corey is here 4 years..I don't. Johnson and Freeman graduate....so who is left? Laurent..thats all and a bunch of guys yet to ever play yet or not even recruited yet...do you feel comfortable with Eddie recruiting.I dont

I hope you are right Moves...the Eddie supporters are relentless setting such a low bar

you are right..every year is a reset button, yet every year there are shills making EVERY excuse in the world.

The fact that you are allowed to post on this board, which is free, is a travesty and that is saying something since it is free. You make rutgersal look normal.

Where is St. John's ranked this year?

Did we lose to them on the road without one of their best freshman (Yakwe) and another minor freshman (Eillison)?

Now replace Nigel with Bishop. I

Is that team with Jordan as coach going to beat teams in the Big Ten if it cant close out St. John's? Really?

Sanders was 1-6 from foul line that game. And Bishop missed one and one, that is why we lost.

Yes, let's replace EJ and in 3 years we can replace whoever replaces EJ just so people can act like they are doing something. If you want to make a change, write big checks.

St John's was a mix of Lavin holdovers, grad transfers and two Mullin guys, and we lost to the Johnnies and first time HC Mullin in Eddie's third year with the program! blowing it in the second half. It was a disaster.

I thought our core was good enough to be .500? Our core played that night.

there was even one poster who insisted that Eddie coached a good game..so much so he started a separate thread about it......the 2nd half was atrocious coaching on Eddies part as our offense was out of control and there was no adjustment made to stop the same exac SJU play that was run virtually everytime

Eddie has never and I mean never in three years adjusted his defense to stop a successful play by the other team.

The fact that we have stunk in hoops for the past 34 years is not an excuse for excusing Jordan's performance.

OK, fine, there are injuries. But what about:

1. His record the past two years and early this year against mediocre teams.

2. His recruiting - not a sniff from a Jersey kid? How is this even possible. Only one high profile U.S. HS recruit - Sanders. A roster filled with transfers, Canary Island kids, wings who can't shoot and purported Goode shooters who simply are not.

3. His staff - how appealing to a young recruit or to a fan base is a staff full of old guys. Now, I am an old guy myself, so I am not being ag-ist in saying this. I went to school with Jordan. I love the guy. But PLEASE. Which recruit is going to be excited by this gang.

Things are changing. We have a great AD and wallets are opening. There is simply no case to be made to keep Eddie in my opinion.

how can people contribute with this staff leading the hoops program

however donations would bounce up with a new coach and new vision and direction
