Does Big Ten regret adding Rutgers?

Yeah, I'd imagine they're pretty upset.

Rutgers showed such shortsightedness in not investing in the B1G opportunity. We could be killing it right now if only we weren't so cheap, embarrassing the university and State of NJ crying about how poor we are. Instead we're dealing with stories that make us a national laughingstock without the offset of having a football program that is feared and respected on the football field. The worst possible start to our time in the B1G has happened as RU is a punching bag both on and off the field. Take a lesson from UConn and see what they did with the Big East in basketball. They turned a minor program in MBB and WBB into national dominance. What do you think UConn would do with an invitation to the B1G? I guarantee they would hire the best coaching staff in the game and win a B1G football championship within the first five years.

What could we be "killing" right now? We're in our 2nd season in conference play and some teams this fall are already showing improvement in a league that is much better, all-around, than the BE was. This is gonna take time people need to stop fooling themselves. UConn SUCKED at sports until the Big East.

Yes, we all wish we could do more, immediately, but we wouldn't be "killing" anything just yet.

The big ten is extremely extremely happy with the additions of Rutgers and Maryland. Extremely

End of story

UCONN I believe won 3 or 4 National Championships in Men's Basketball. I believe they won 2 Big East Titles in Football. I believe they won 100 Big East Titles in Women's Basketball (just kidding). How is this team left out of the ACC?

Excellent Post!!

You're just nutty. The ACC has fSU and UNC which if you ask me, are bigger embarrassments than us. The B1G is tradition personified. We may not "fit" "competitively quite yet, but we'll get there.
I can't believe anyone who knows and follows RU would think that....we are a prototypical B1G school...

This is a league that harbored a child rapist, had a coach banned from coaching for five years and birthed the term "flat and mega tongue on the clit". Rutgers is the least of its worries, despite the media's best efforts.

FEAR by certain privates of becoming more insignificant in the NE.

To be completely honest I think Duke is an excellent University. The point to my post is that I'm happy to be in the Big Ten but I would have preferred if we got an invite to the ACC. I respect all conferences for what they bring to the table. To me personally the ACC provides a more exciting brand of football.

In England and Australia, they call this, "taking the piss".

Like Cuse/BC kind of exciting.....I have to say I do miss beating Cuse/UConn and BC would be nice to pummel but what besides sharing a region do we have in common with any but UConn. We've become 'until this yr' the eastern team outside PSU.

Nebraska lost their AAU status the year after they joined the B1G. I think that's a much more significant issue for the conference leadership than the recent issues at RU.

Two words: Boston College.

I personally thought it was a big mistake to join the B10 conference. I've been consistent with that thought since the idea of getting an invite began to circulate. I've always been a big advocate of the ACC because I felt we had much more in common with those schools. Also, think about what Rutgrs had to endure and inherit. To me it's not a question whether Delany regrets his decision it will come down to did Rutgers make the right move?

You can't be serious.
I can't believe someone actually thinks this way. Weird.

Seriously. I understood people thinking this way back in the Big East/AAC days - disagreed, but understood - but how do you think that way years after the B1G invite. Kind of silly, pointless thinking.

this all is true, but part of the problem is how long it takes to get the big, B1G money......if we were going to be a full member in, lets say three years, those in power would have had a better chance of borrowing the money, debt spending, knowing that we could help pay it down
in a couple of years....

but the big 10, and rightfully so, doesn't give us a full share for years and years..... if we were to all of a sudden spend $5 million a year on a head coach now, then pay proper money for his assistants, the state would go crazy...

I say it almost every post..... RU is constantly under attack by the media.... aside from the arrest scandals, that still have us as one of the cleanest programs around, the media attacks our finances.....the additional spending for a new coaching staff would be editorial pieces, front page pieces, of the three major newspapers...and more than once.
