My favorite moments from this post game presser:

Eddie told the team at halftime he was not concerned about the score, but more concerned about the competitive spirit of the team in the second half.

Eddie thanked MD coach Mark Turgeon for calling off the hounds in the second half and respecting the game. A MD kid, Varun Ram, who had not played more than 3 minutes in a game this season got 16 minutes vs us last night.

Had commitments last night, so still have to finish watching the last 12 minutes of the game. But based on what I have seen of the game, I have no problem at all with Jordan's post game press conference.

I mean, what the heck was RU going to do? When Foreman or Lewis had to sit on the bench, you had 6'4" Grier having to cover a 6'10" Maryland player who could both post and shoot the 3 (#10). Maryland simply got the ball to that kid regularly when Grier was covering him. There were times when Williams or Goode (at 6'2" each) had to cover a 6'8" or 6'10" player. Lewis had to play with 3 fouls in the 1st half, because Foreman also had 3 fouls. How can you play defense when you know you have 3 fouls in the 1st half, and know you literally cannot make any contact?

In the 1st half, while it is true RU forced some shots (Sanders and Daniels in particular), it is also true that Goode missed 2 WIDE open 3-point shots off good set-up passes from Sanders. And it is also true RU missed at least 6 lay-ups ... some of those missed shots were contested, with 6'8" to 6'11" guys covering our 6'2" guys penetrating, so tough shots. But some were just misses.

One can certainly make a good case that it is Jordan's responsibility (and his staff) that RU does not have a full roster of players capable of contributing even before the injuries (i.e. not a full complement of scholarship players, and that some of the players that are at RU are too flawed to help enough, even when and if healthy). And yes, I can see making a case the players may not be coached up enough, especially defensively.

But RU got enough open shots in the 1st half to have scored at least 10 additional points beyond what they did score, had they just hit a reasonable percentage (not even a "hot" percentage). Defensively, there was almost nothing RU could do because of the match-ups and depletion. And I have NEVER seen a team with as many concentrated injuries as this team ... never.

RU's "luck" this year has been even worse than RU's demonstrated skills.

In all fairness Varun Ram was a starter at Trinity college for one year, and transferred to Maryland. He does have a 3.99 GPA in neurobiology and is a 5th year player. He is our defensive specialist when we get in foul trouble, or to play defense at the end of the half to save fouls being called on Melo in a defense for offense situation. He literally would be a starter at other schools and a legit backup on a lot of D1 teams.

This Maryland team is ridiculous in depth, the best I have seen in decades.

I've watched your team play a few times this season and I believe they're a legit final four team. Your depth is definitely your strong suit, but Melo IMO is probably one of the top five players in the nation. Maryland is the team to beat in the B1G and should get a 1 or 2 seed (at the worst) by tournament time. Just need to make sure Melo stays healthy.

As we all know, Jordan is a nice guy, but he seems so defeated by all of this. It's hard not to feel somewhat sorry for him watching these pressers. "Pathetic" does come to mind, unfortunately and I just can't see a team getting motivated by his demeanor.

Then I think of the money he's making, the money I spend on tickets and supporting the program, and the last 25+ years of this garbage product, and all the empathy goes away.

We gave GS 10 years to rebuild the FB program. I am not asking for 10 year for EJ ,but the BB program needs to be rebuilt from
the ground up, we can't keep changing coaches every two years like Tampa Bay

There are a lot of people out there like you jsol_05. There are about 10 like ruBrain, they are all very vocal and persistent....they have taken over the board.

There is NOTHING wrong with the press conference. I do think Eddie has not connected with this team and he owns the recruitment of this team except for Lewis, but seriously- what the heck else is he supposed to say at this point. I have been vocal about moving on from EJ, but I do believe he will get another year (based on the injuries alone), and he probably should, but only if he is able to keep anyone from transferring.

No problem with the press conference. I'd rather EJ's honesty about where we are than Flood's head in the sand act. No use pretending its different than it is. In the current situation, we are no where near a level where we are going to be competitive against Maryland.

My guess is Hobbs would hire someone else - someone who better fits the profile of what the program needs at this time; a younger, more energetic coach looking to make his mark who is a good teacher of the game, a master motivator, and relentless recruiter who will work 14+ hours a day like Ash.

It takes a lot longer to build up a football program than a basketball program.

This is such a reasonable and logical (and obvious) assertion, but it's easy to miss when you're hellbent on twisting reality to fit your preferred narrative.

Coaches don't get fired in 3 years with 3 players over 6'8" out for the season unless they have a Rice like scandal or a Bill Gillespie like meltdown. Saying he should be fired over and over on a message board will not do it.

Clyde Drexler didn't even last 3 years. And had a better record than Eddie. All very similar. Bad college coaches.

If facilities are a true detriment like we all believe them to be, Hobbs may wait until he has a concrete plan for facilities together before making any change or switch.

I don't think Eddie gets an extension but I also don't expect a coaching change to be made.

This is a different RU Athletics Dept with Hobbs at the controls. We need to stop thinking small time from our experiences in the past. I hope I'm right because literally no one will want to buy season tix at the RAC next season with the current coaching staff.

Until then, we are still both RUTGERS fans and want to see all of its teams succeed.
Hopefully more and more teams keep showing improvement and making us proud per the recent trends in other sports.

How many reasonably successful pro coaches have become successful college coaches? Wish Fast Eddie, my favorite RU player back in the day, had not taken the job, but had caught on somewhere in the NBA and maybe landed one last HC job there. Pro experience has little bearing on college. We need someone young, maybe one who has been successful at a lower D1 job.
