EDSEL FIRED

I'd be shocked if RU doesn't wait to make a decision until the end of the season. Edsel never did well at UMD and is coming off a bad end to last season and a horrific start to this season. Flood overachieved last year and now has had his team play a great game against a top team. Listen, I'm not a Flood supporter (and think he's at best an average HC), but at this point it wouldn't make sense to fire him in the middle of the season. I'm not even sure what UMD accomplishes by doing that.

They accomplish nothing. Firing a coach in season is stupid.

Why is it not a good idea to get a head start to a coaching search that can be done "out in the open" without the encumbrance of even a lame duck coach

Randy Edsall was fired because the players lost respect for him. Completely different situation at Rutgers and Kyle Flood.

That's really not it. It's because the fan base and donor base is fed up. Personally, I've never seen a single sign that the players don't like or respect him (obviously I'm not at practice, in locker room, etc.). I think that's just window dressing that some people threw in afterwards to make this all more palatable.

Maryland was a terrible destination for Edsall. They fired Ralph after a 9 win season and they lost a lot of guys. They weren't invested in the program at the time. Now Kevin Plank has money and chances are he's calling the shots. You don't fire a coach coming off a winning season in the middle of the year unless a big donor says so

But I heard that every player shook hands with him before the tOSU game yesterday?

Edsall deserves to get fired mid-season, he lost my respect with the classless way he announced to his UConn team he was leaving for the MD job.

How long before Manhattan hires RE to be his personal assistant?

It was a rocky road from day 1. UConn won title and Edsell left them hating him at UConn and then hating him at Maryland. Maryland doesn't seem to try to handle football situation well. Debbie Yow screwed football up and then Maryland gets a new AD from Army - which is the last place I'd look if I wanted to fix football (and Maryland did because of their debt over foolish girl sports facilities that dont make a return)

The records of the division 1 teams that Maryland beat during Edsall's five years as head coach:

2011 Miami: 6-6
2012 Temple: 4-7
2012 Wake Forest: 5-7
2012 Virginia: 4-8
2013 FIU: 1-11
2013 UConn: 3-9
2013 West Virginia: 4-8
2013 Virginia: 2-10
2013 Virginia Tech: 8-5
2013 NC State: 3-9
2014 USF: 4-8
2014 Syracuse: 3-9
2014 Indiana: 4-8
2014 Iowa: 7-6
2014 Penn State: 7-6
2014 Michigan: 5-7
2015 USF: ?

He would do well in NJ. I think he's a good coach and from what I've heard a good person.

Rutgers is a slave to the media and public perception. Maryland will ace this hire and fire and Rutgers will screw their chance up. This can very well have an affect on The Big Ten new TV deal. Maryland will go after Chip Kelly and Rich-Rod, while Rutgers will either keep Flood or make a cheap hire. Any hire above 2 million will be trashed by the media and we know all too well RU is afraid of what the mean kids at The Ledger may say about them.
