Since I haven't seen anyone mention this guy, I figured I'd ask.

Elijah Battle - 6-1, 190 lb 3 star JUCO DB from Dodge City CC out in Kansas, originally from Barringer High in Newark, NJ. Graduates in 2016.

Is this guy being recruited at all? I can see there's some interest to/from Rutgers but no offer. Already has some solid offers from Arizona, WV, Minnesota, Houston and a bunch of others. He could be a good fit for Ash's aggressive scheme, thoughts?

It has been well documented that Juco's have problems being able to transfer into RU. That could be the problem here.

Got it, I thought this might be the case and it's probably the same situation for Juwann Winfree. Thanks, will shut up now

Yep, we're harder for JUCO's to get into than a lot of other schools. Also, I don't think we have a lot of interest in Winfree even without the academic situation.

Have always figured it was a case where the JUCO path to RU can be done - but has to be done via a somewhat deliberate & prepared process the right courses need to be taken - and taken in earnest - and a level of achievement must be demonstrated.

A recruit who originally would have academically qualified - but like Arron Rodgers going to Butte College - is looking to boost their Football credentials - probably would have no issues.

A recruit who flat out does not academically qualify really has a lot of work to do - they have to hoist themselves up to the level of acceptability - and - have to have progressed to a point where they can legitimately be viewed as having completed two years of collegiate academic work - by the prevailing Rutgers' standards .

All of this means that RU has to be very selective - RU can't just freely fish in the JUCO ocean - because by RU standards, the genuine 'keepers' are sometimes challenging to find.

If a kid goes to JUCO and takes a bunch of phys ed courses, they're not going to transfer over. That's really the extent of our "higher standards" for JUCO kids.

What a nutjob that Winfree kid is. He obviously has no idea what he wants. Supposedly just decomitted from Pitt.

That and a higher math requirement. It really should not be that difficult.

It can definitely be done, look at Isaiah Johnson and Cal Ibanez. Although I don't think Cal Ibanez ever enrolled? And yeah I guess it's a good thing that we don't go after Winfree, we don't need anymore drama.

Oh yes, it can absolutely can be done - provided the academic component is given the appropriate level of attention
-but - the kid who thinks that - by going the JUCO route - they have just swung on over into the Eazy-Pass lane - is going to be seriously dismayed.

I know in the case of Johnson, he was fully qualified coming out of high school.
