ESPN RU Article

I can't quite explain why, but I never feel that ESPN has Rutgers best interest in mind. Call me crazy.

Guys without an agenda....outsiders that view the current situation realistically.........They Get It !

It's hard to remember now, just how big of a deal the Mike Rice video abuse scandal was, but it was a "Today Show"-level mess that all but guaranteed prospects and their families would at least subconsciously associate Rutgers basketball with that dude who threw basketballs at players in practices. You don't come back from that in three years. You can't get it out of the bloodstream that quickly.

Add in the 1977 facilities and the 25 year drought....the Result ? Rock bottom, but, time is needed to recover, certainly, more than 2 years and 15 games and 3 key big men injured.

The same persistent and vocal 7 or so posters will now dominate this thread by beating the same drum of negativity.....I won't have any further comments....let them have their fun...lol

Then I'm crazy too. E$PN has never had our best interests in mind in my opinion. They want us to continue to suck. Give Eddie more time for RU to suck.
I want Eddie to succeed. I get the lack of bodies and talent thing, but at least get the fundamentals right.

The whole "agenda" notion is silly and always has been. It's even a misuse of the word. It's bizarre to even go through the type of thinking necessary to muse into existence the type of plan that you think is behind this article.

That sad, the real problem with the article is that it reads like it's from a guy who just skirted by for a moment to give a mostly inattentive uninformed opinion and then moved on to his next one because it's his job to have opinions, lots of 'em, whether thoughtful or not. Journalism ain't what it used to be.

So what is it now 20 straight conference losses?

No article is going to avoid the eventual change coming....wins are the only items and improved defense.

80+ points giving up is a trend that gives RU no chance to win any conference games.....last night was 94 points....even if RU played well for both halves, you are still likely to lose by 15+ points.

Giving more time doesn't solve defense not being played, roster being short-handed or not. There is no way to skirt the issue and it's just the reality of not about whether a coach deserves more time or not. If there was a plan in place, I think many would overlook the roster being shorthanded, but you just can't in these circumstances.

So if you have injuries every year you get a pass no matter what. In that case EJ can hope for a depleted roster every year for job security.

At least ESPN cares about us. Star-Ledger's basketball reporters are known as the Associated Press.

I'm glad to see that Eamonn Brennan sees things the same way as I do.

There are 2 ways to lose by 30+ points. We can repeat yesterday allowing players to play 60% or in spurts defensively....OR.....we can set the tone for how we want the program to look and demand players defend (and play within the offense). Dadika, Hyde, and Batie all wear uniforms for a reason.

Very disappointed players seemed OK with the dunk fest. It as if they were resigned for it to happen. Go look at the height of OSU players that played. The entire team is using crutches when they should play through it. We didn't get killed by post ups or offensive rebounds.

well that settles it....some reporter at ESPN who hasn't watched a minute of Rutgers play this year and doesn't know any of our situation beyond Mike Rice says Eddie should be given more time. We have to do what ESPN says

I strongly agree with you on this. I don't like the attitude being taken by coaches and some of our fans of throwing hands up in the air and saying we cant do this, we are going to fail, there is nothing that can be done

there was a Bannon team one year that had only 7 players...wasn't very good but remember they at least fought

We've been a 'young team' like every stinking year I've been a fan
Every season there is a new excuse .While some have merit the reality is that nobody that matters cares about Rutgers mens basketball. The dwindling fan base of die hards has heard all the lame excuses and now just roll their eyes and move on to the next losing season.

Urban Meyer talks about (as did Ash) about 10-80-10.

10% have elite ability and give elite effort
80% need to be motivated and pushed to get to the top 10%
10% hopeless, there is nothing you can do

I am sure I am not explaining this right or missing something.

We have all 80% on this team and I just don't see these guys being pushed to produce their best.

I assume this is something that happens in practice, in the weight room or in film sessions, etc. So, what have you noticed from the Rutgers practices you have attended?

Everyone on this board is infinitely more qualified to talk about Rutgers hoops than that writer.

No. I know the talent that Jack had. We know how his senior year went AND the comments he made about playing for Rice (not playing for Jordan).

This year we have ultra talented Bishop Daniels who, in my opinion, is playing way under potential.

Jordan is too nice.

Anyone else tired of hearing the Mike Rice excuses being brought up over and over again ?

It's now a red herring in my book.

We are on our second AD since that happened and are now in the B1G conference. Things have changed.

I am not even going to read that because its a joke. More time with what players who should be at Fairfield & Quinnapiac?

it did set the program back quite a bit, and this would be the season you really feel pain from basically having a very short 2013 recruiting season and losing transfers due to Rice and the time of the year he was fired.

At this point, you'd want to see progress, though. A losing season wouldn't be so bad if you saw solid fundamentals on the court and a solid recruiting class coming in. We don't really see that....

Rice is back in coaching already. Whatever happened is in the past. Was the 2013-14 roster that bad talent/ranking wise? Was it really scorched Earth as much as we thought it was?

Jack
Judge
Seagears
JJ Moore
Étou
Mack

Sure it's not ideal and we had tons of dead weight by even AAC-A10 standards ... But

Do we have that amount of "talent" almost three years later? That was not a team starting all walk ons.

I think the 2014 class wasn't strong enough to bring us up to speed and fast enough to avoid or compensate for the lack of defense and rebounding. Two partial qualifiers, a big from cba who is big but limited, an undersized shooting guard whos streaky, an erratic juco, and a rebounder who can't shoot well and is limited offensively.

Next year three guys graduate:
Bishop - replaced by Nigel
Grier - replaced by Tripp
Lewis - no replacement yet

On a 6-win team, are those big enough upgrades to win 8 more games (14-win season)?

Does Hobbs want to find out? Who's to say freeman, Doorson and Diallo stay heAlthy? Diallo was hurt in HS and Freeman dealt with 1-2 knee injuries in HS/JC

The best few months of Eddies time at RU was from his hire date to the beginning of the season. He put together a decent roster in year 1 by re-recruiting Seagears, getting JJ Moore to transfer, and grabbing Etou.. He also has Campbell, Brown and Kone on the bench. It was not a great team, and had a lot of holes (not real point guard), but it wasn't awful.

However, I think Eddie did a very bad job coaching that team in year 1.

He's done an even worse in replenishing the roster from his first team. That failure to build a deeper roster from his first real recruiting class until today is why we are in the hole we are. That is totally on him.

2013:

Starting 5 in AAC:
Mack
Seagears
Moore
Jack
Judge

Potential 2016-17 starting 5 in Big Ten ( Year 4 for Jordan)

Sanders
Nigel/Williams
Laurent
Freeman
Doorson/Diallo

the only real overall edge on the roster is Sanders. Mack is the 2nd best player. 5 of the top 7 players are from year 1

1. Sanders
2. Mack
3. Jack
4. Freeman
5. Judge
6. Moore
7. Etou
8. Seagears
9. Laurent
10. Williams
11. Johnson
12. Lewis
13. Doorson
14. Kone
15. Diallo
16. Brown
17. Campbell
18. Tripp
19. Goode

am I missing anyone
