Did anyone else have an issue exiting the blue lot and not be able to run left out of the lot?

We were forced to turn right and then the exit on 18 for river Rd was closed as well. Had to go through college Ave to Easton and then back up to 287N.

Anyone know why they did this as it hasn't been this way for any other game.

Unless you really leave early, the rt# 18 ramp is usually closed back to River Road. But if you wait awhile after, I was able to exit thru the scarlet lot and turn right on RRD to Rt 287. Otherwise, it's Easton Ave.

You sure you didn't miss 18 N? Both entrances to 18 (N and S) are side by side IIRC.

Yeah the 18N exit is just a bit further. They blocked that?

I don't go 18N, but both exits were open. It was the RRD ramp that was closed so traffic goes back across the river toward College Ave/George St. I'm guessing they don't want traffic hung up where people cross to catch the buses after the game or just extra congestion.

Seems 18N was your best bet to 287N though no? I take 18S so I'm not sure.

If that's the reasoning, that's a bit silly, since all that extra traffic heading back across the river is just working its way through College Ave campus to Easton Ave, which in turn holds up the buses to & from Johnson Park. Unless...they're trying to get people to take 18N to 287.

I'm guessing 18N to 287 was their plan.

The problem is there's no consistency. Most of the time it's the opposite.... you can't make the right out of blue.

If this happens again, you've got a few options. Depending on the traffic pattern, you might be able to

  • completely go around the circle (u-turn) and drive right past blue as if you made the left.
  • Go 3/4 around the circle, drive past purple and the student center and make your way back to the golf course (follow the buses).
  • Go straight through the circle to 18N and make a left on hoes lane. Or just stay on 18 until you get to 287.
Post-game, they've blocked the 18S exit to river road from almost the day it was built.
If you take 18N to Centennial To 287, does any other lot traffic empty on to 18N before Centennial ?
Before they closed off the park entrances on Huntington and College that was an option to Easton Ave. The light at Huntington and Easton by the hospital is a big hangup with no turn on red. Must be too many fans going to the games.

Thanks for the replies. The whole thing started when you couldn't exit left out of blue like is supposed to happen per the parking information we've always received. Since I had never exited to the right, I had no idea the river Rd would be closed off of 18S.

Blue lot has always exited to the left and then to Hoes lane. Right on Hoes lane during peak exit times but either way after the lines disperse. Not sure how or why it was changed for this game.

Exactly. I'll know in the future but with the snow/sleet and windows fogging up it was tough to figure out alternates on the fly.

Yep if I knew river Rd exit was closed, I would have done that.

With the weather conditions you did the right thing to be safe. It was very difficult to see anything and than make a split second decision on top of it. I saw a lot of PS fans confused upon leaving or maybe just confused period.

The answer is no. If you take Campus Road to 18N the road is basically clear until you hit the light at Hoes Lane West/Morris Ave. That light backs up maybe 1000 feet as they merge the 2 lanes of Rt 18 into 1. There is sometimes a small back up making the left onto Centennial if your going to 287N but since they are manually changing the lights the wait to make the left is maybe one traffic light cycle.
The OP's mistake was trying to get to River Road - should have taken 18N.

Maybe it's better, but that 18 merge used to be a parking lot. I've sat in it many times 20-30+ minutes. Since I stay till the end, I usually cut through the back roads now if it's a close game/late-leaving crowd.
I've been in the yellow lot since 1994 and have never had a problem like that exiting. I usually get to my car pretty quickly after the game so maybe I'm ahead of the traffic. Also maybe while the 4 year long Hoes Lane project was dragging along it was worse but this year, after that project was finished, I have not had a problem.

Thanks for the info. Another option from the white lot too.

The better approach is to sell your tickets to PSU fans at a steep premium, tailgate incredibly hard and leave a few minutes after kick -off.

Don't listen to Big Lou - he brought PSU people to the game.

You also had. PSU guest though yours was cuter than my guest.

My understanding is that for the next PSU game at High Point Solutions, to ease the exiting Blue lot there will be a PSU dedicated lot located at Yankee Stadium. The lot will only open 30 minutes prior to kick off. Any one wearing Blue will not be allowed to park at lots located on campus. Naming rights for the lot are under consideration.

You can't make this stuff up. Even with only dozens of RU fans left in the building the Blue Lot managed to hold me from leaving for a good half hour.
Astounding.

One hour and 5 minutes to get from the scarlet lot to a moving at speed river road at the end of the third quarter. 65 minutes to go 200 yards! I thought I saw Christie moving the traffic cones. Pathetic performance by Rutgers facilities management.
