Rutgers led by Barchi and the BOG continue to not be willing to be committed to big time athletics and get rid of our coach that has embarrassed us on and off the field maybe we need to reconsider how much we want to give back. Fair is fair. The school wants to take advantage of the fans and donors but then continues its incredulous policy of doing everything on the cheap. This school never learns. Everything they do on the cheap blows up in their face and causes embarrassment and more money. First thing they need to do is fire Flood and start acting lke a Power 5 school with the next coaching hire. If not perhaps there are wiser choices to spend our money and time

Couldn't agree more with this school consistently doing everything on the cheap. Flood was and is bargain basement value. I frankly don't see things changing - just such a tough climate to get this school where us, the fans want it to be - media, governmental red tape, admin all seem to be working against this program in one way or another. You certainly don't see this stuff at successful football programs. This is who we are, and until we get a Phil Knight donor, who we will be unfortunately.

Some good fans here believe we need to show support now more than ever. I ask you, is their any responsibility on the other end?
Commitment, preperation, emotion, physicality, direction, awareness, sense of urgency, kicking field goals down 21 points shows supporters exactly what? Punting from the oppositions 37 yard line 4th and 5?
Where's the two way street of commitment back at us?
Lots of problems, over 100 kids, yet the players who got in trouble are all starters, large contributors and even a captain...strange.

This thread and responses nail it.

Even the most positive, Scarlet colored glasses wearing Rutgers Fan can agree that Rutgers has always been and continues to be cheap when it comes to Athletics.

Barchi looks at joining the Big Ten as a way to reduce subsidies to Athletics. A real president would look at the opportunity to make a killing by investing in the two money producing sports and turn them into winners.

But Rutgers will do what it always has done and take the frugal route

GS for all his flaws BAC, would be an undeniable leader and give us a sense of direction. Is there any doubt he would take charge and captain the ship, he may suck on game day, but we would have a boss in charge, and players that fear his wrath.

Its amazing that Barchi does not view investing in athletics as a way to increase the value of the B1G membership and thus improve the overall stature of the university. He may think the Med school alone can get improve the academic standing but I think a good athletic program draws students who want a big time college sports atmosphere. I think there are even statistics to back up that there was a spike in the number and quality of applications post Louisville in 06. In his defense there may just literally be no dollars that can be reallocated from other priorities at this time but it does appear to be very short sighted and does bring into question the merits of buying tickets to these events.

This is the best and most accurate thread I've sen in a long time. I've been an RU fan since before the going 'bigger time' declaration back in the early 70s, and watched how these tight wadded 'leaders' did things. We had a good coach in Frank Burns but they sent hi into a gun fight with an ice pick. They didn't spend a frikken dime on anything. They just expanded a schedule, but they fire him as the sacrificial lamb, hired Anderson, and he was given 'the bubble'. Oh boy! Mr Hale donated the funds for the center that carries his name.
They just keep dragging their feet and on it will go.
Flood, nor most members of his staff, are obviously not the answer, but I will say this for him, I think he can do OK at the FCS level.....not here.

With all due respect to the OP, successful football programs aren't financed by the guys who shop for tailgate lo-bro.

Successful football programs are financed by boosters who donate millions of dollars per year.

We don't have those guys.

Until we do, we will be an average program. Our upside potential consists of 7 or 8 win seasons, with the very occasional 9 or 10 win lightning in a bottle.

The only way Flood is release at the end of the year is due to the players misconduct, arrests, and his behavior contacting the professor concerning Barnwell. If this was only the team performance, we would still have to wait 2 more years since the majority of fans just realized how bad Flood is as a coach. Barchi and Herman just praised Flood last year base on last year's performance.

We don't have to spend $5 million but just get another coach for $2 million and give the fans hope for at least another 3 years. We might be like Syracuse and Pitt the last 6-8 years wondering where we went wrong. I think Herman understands the lost revenue from tickets and donation will be greater than $1 million the incremental increase for a new coach.

excellent points in here

The RU "leadership" should stand up and fire Flood now to make a statement to the fans and donors who support the program that this level of performance (on and off the field) won't be tolerated. At least the right message is sent and we would know now that something different will be in place next year. To leave Flood on for the rest of the year is just going to continue with the constant negative narrative which will just get worse as the season spirals out of control.

I don't actually understand all this stuff about RU being so cheap w athletics just yet. Flood beat USF and if he hadn't who knows who we would ha e hired or what we might have spent? We had a good season last year.

So really this cheap talk is premature.

I have nine people in our group with three green passes... The donation, seat gift etc to maintain what we have is considerable, and it is not like you can cut back the money you pay

So, you either give up seats/lot selection, or continue "donating"

Made Nebraska relevant again after Callahan. Should have won the B12 but got jobbed on the last play against Texas. 47yrs old which is a great age. Experienced with easily 15yrs to go. The guy pulled TALENT from four massive states away. He's what Jersey needs.

(I'd contribute to a fund if one needs to be set up)

Julie came from a program that was accustomed to spending big bucks for their coaches and facilities.... She quickly found out that this is not happening easily here.......

Bac

The term you are seeking is institutional support. And it still lacks

We have come close to completely blown our two year start up "holiday pass"....soon the novelty will end

We got an invite in November of 2012 and knew it was likely to come. We reacted and are and were slow and not proactive and agressive

It started with institutional commitment ...and it lacks still

Bo would get chewed up by the SL. Not a good fit. He's a weirdo, and he's a magnet for controversy.

It does everything on the cheap because Athletics doesn't have the money, is unwilling to borrow against the future and is a hostage of the current political and media environment, with a University President that is neutral to playing sports.

I take some heat for my views here on Barchi. I have never felt he understands the need to compete both academically, and athletically at a Big 10 school. Completely agree he doesn't understand investing in athletics. The biggest change we need right now is at the top. We will never attract the kind of coach we need under his " lower the subsidy" watch.

Not going to happen under this rental President. he here to do two things. Complete the Merger/transition of the Med school and fix the finances. Not a guy that understands athletic performance as a source of School/State pride. He is one of "them" not us.

Not renewing if Flood comes back, and everyone should let JH know that is their stance.
Except that it's not my stance.

I'd love for us to have a great name-brand coach (and coaching staff). But we aren't ready to hire that guy yet. It'll be another 3-4 years is my guess. Maybe more depending who replaces Barchi.

In the meantime, I'll keep renewing, regardless of who the coach is, because it's inexpensive entertainment. The tailgates are great fun and the games are fun when we win or when it's close enough to be exciting. And we've been winning more than we've been losing.

Bo is a loose cannon, he needs to be at a place with low visibility and very strong leadership.

Damn that USF victory at the end of the season a couple years ago is still coming back to haunt us.
Going 9-4 with arguably the most talented team in our history and a co-big east championship, which was actually 3rd in conference. UL and Cincy both were ahead of us. This and that USF game began the fantasy that Flood was a good coach.

We are 1-2 and last night was not close and neither will the rest of them be. MSU and tOSU could play their third string and it would not be close.

If I wanted to do what you're suggesting, I live way close to the area pro teams.

I wasn't suggesting anything. Just pointing out that I'm not going to email Julie about how I'm not renewing my season tickets if Flood remains. Nor would I not renew my tickets if Flood goes.

This. He smiles when we win, but is not willing to be a real Leader. I fear changing coaches will do nothing until a change at the top occurs. Schiano, even if you believe he is the answer would never come and work for Him.

Schiano or anyone else worth anything would have to realize that they would be here long after Barchi is gone. Barchi has 2-3 years left? If anyone really wants this job, I doubt they would be that short sighted.

If we want to be successful then the AD needs to go first. Hire a winning AD and then he/she will bring in the right HC.

The fish stinks from the head.

Barchi will be leaving soon. The best that we can do now is to drain the swamp that is the RU Athletic Dept.

I'm not sure I understand the angst about hiring a coach with Barchi as president. The only major coaching hire under his watch was hiring Eddie Jordan and paying him more than we've ever paid a basketball coach (men's or women's).

As far as Hermann, she hasn't pulled the trigger on firing Flood. Although she didn't hire him, at some point she owns his performance if she keeps him around. This will be Flood's 3rd season under Hermann. We are close to that point.

But considering that 2 weeks ago, at least half this board wanted to keep Flood, I can't be too surprised that Flood is still here.

Add in the Maryland Miracle last year.
