Fans put good money and time into this program if....

I'm not sure I understand the angst about hiring a coach with Barchi as president. The only major coaching hire under his watch was hiring Eddie Jordan and paying him more than we've ever paid a basketball coach (men's or women's).

As far as Hermann, she hasn't pulled the trigger on firing Flood. Although she didn't hire him, at some point she owns his performance if she keeps him around. This will be Flood's 3rd season under Hermann. We are close to that point.

But considering that 2 weeks ago, at least half this board wanted to keep Flood, I can't be too surprised that Flood is still here.
You're foolish to think that Hermann has control of firing Flood. She wanted to in 2013 but the school said not on our dime. Private money only. She had input in the dealings with Flood issues of late but the school, not her came up with the 3 game suspension.

JH is not the problem at RU.

Who's the a$$hole who donated Flood's extension?

I WANT TO KNOW!!!!!!

(he must be a PSU booster)

I don't know if you've ever managed a large budget. But Julie is managing a budget in excess of $75 million. Why would anyone expect that she shouldn't fund the football coach from her budget and private donations?

She's already lined up private donations to cover Flood's buyout. Assuming she pays the next coach more than Flood, all she needs to do is find the incremental dollars.

Even if she can't find private donations to cover the incremental spend, she should be able to find money within her budget. Finding even 4% of her $75 million budget would yield her $3 million.

"JH is not the problem at RU."

That may be true. BUT she is also not part of the solution. That said, until we get more B1G $ and much more private $ from alums and boosters, we stay near the bottom of the conference. We cannot "clean house" @ RU athletics until then. For now, fans need to reset their expectations.

No. Greg is a Schiano guy. Jeff Towers was trying to buy his way into a recruiting job at RU but got canned when it became public that he funded his buyout.

This. Everything I've heard says it's Towers' money, not Brown's.

Great thread. Flood put himself above the University when took his rogue actions when told not to. Enough to be fired. Get it done. If we're gonna stink up the field, let's at least restore our integrity. I've been a season ticket holder for 27 years and as I sat wet watching this game from the upper deck, when we elected to kick a field goal in that situation they lost me as a supporter. I'd continue to support this team if the wagons were circled, but apparently we've put up the white flag. A tainted coach in suspended mode does nothing for this program. I'll be back when they show signs of change, Flood is fired or at least a quarterback change.

This thread is ludicrous, the Athletic department is a $75 million dollar business that is losing money, they don't get a full share of Big money for what another 5+ years and the university should step up and throw more money in because it's a good investment? Come on, not happening at a publically funded State University, you would have to be crazy to do that given the current circumstances. People reference successful programs well folks by definition successful programs generate revenue and make money which they re-invest to make more money. Booster want to be part of successful programs to be a part of that they donate money. you want change that takes money pony up. your dissatisfied with Flood put up the money to buy him out and hire someone else, or threaten to cancel your tickets for next year and while your at it you might as well go down to the shore and pee in the Ocean as well. Unless some folks come forward with lot's of money nothing much happens until the deficit is gone and we get a full share of Big dollars and/or a group of big dollar boosters arrive waving cash.

Hiring big name coach is not the answer, here's why.

What big name coach would come to Rutgers? Older guys on the down-side of their careers wanting one more big payday. Maybe a young hot-shot waiting for his chance to move up to something better than "Rutgers".

Rutgers is in a tough spot for a football head coach hire. We have to be wary of both social climbers and those looking to cash in. And since we are not a traditional sports school, we have few in the industry who have any real allegiance to Rutgers or New Jersey. I think we have to either rehire GS or take chances on young talent that has some connection to us in some way.

Or.. go the way of Wisconsin and Michigan and hire your former head coach as AD and let him worry/micromanage it all. Think about GS as AD, he can make sure the machinery is in good working order re: recruiting and academics and discipline... would probably be a nightmare for a head coach to work under... unless they are a young PJ Fleck type who wants a GS as a mentor. We can get associate ADs to handle all the other sports.

Point of clarification, if I may. Do I have to drive all the way to the shore to pee in the ocean? Or would it be acceptable if I just stop on a bridge somewhere near me?

Anyway, I mostly agree with what you've said. There's a lot of wishful thinking going on with respect to the program.

Although the problem with firing Flood and putting up money to hire someone else is that it's a gamble that we'll do much better than last season, record-wise at least, for awhile with any coach that we can afford and that wants to come here. So it's hard to justify the expense.

When Lesniak wins Trenton in 2017 we'll see change from the top on down that won't require a call to the coaches at Notre Dame for approval.

This starts with our bag of dogsh*t governor and his support of Barchi and his meddling in the AD after the Rice scandal.

Some are arguing that is Browns money or Towers money blah blah blah and they get to decide which coach to fire or which coach to hire, is that what u really want for this program, some rich guy with no ties to the university calling the shots just because he is rich...then u get mad when called sheeple
