Chris Ash on whether Kiy Hester or Anthony Cioffi will start at strong safety:
“We'll see how the week goes. Cioffi's been our starting strong safety. Cioffi's had some injury issues that have come up, that's limited him in practice. It hurt him a little bit in this last game. That's why Kiy played more, and Kiy came back and was healthy. So we'll really have a three-man rotation. That's what we like to go through at safety with Saquon [Hampton], with Anthony and with Kiy. They can play both positions. So it's not just Kiy, Hester, and Anthony Cioffi deal. It's a three-man rotation that regardless of what happens in a game, they can each play those two positions.”
Ash on Saquan Hampton:
“He's starting to get back into a groove. But he's nowhere near the player that I think he will be down the road. Will it be next year or two years? I don't know. Good thing is he's got a lot of years left. But I think he's got potential to be an outstanding football player. I was hoping that he'd get closer to his potential this year through the course of the year. It just hasn't happened because of the injury. I love him. He's one of my favorite guys. He's one of our favorite players, and I think he's going to be a great player for us here over the next few years.”

Recruiting Tidbits
RB Jon Lovett (Cherokee - NJ)
Lovett visited the Scarlet Knights last weekend when they took on Indiana with a teammate of his, defensive back Mike Bowers who is a Monmouth commit. Now, Lovett will head out Iowa this weekend to check out the Hawkeyes as they take on Michigan. The Hawkeyes offered Lovett last week and that comes a couple weeks after a Penn State offer. It looks like it could be an interesting ride through the rest of Lovett’s recruitment.
DE Chrishawn Wilson (West Florence - SC)
The search for defensive linemen continued and that led the Rutgers staff to extend an offer to Wilson, who also counts offers from Temple and UNC-Charlotte.
“Coach Burnham talked to me over the phone and through Twitter for a little,” Wilson said. “He was mostly telling me that I’m a great player and they are ready to offer me. He also said they want me to come up for an official visit sometime in the winter. I don’t know much other than that they are in the Big Ten, they have a lot of players leaving after this year, and they have the major I want to go to school for in agriculture. I want to pursue agriculture mostly because I’m an outdoor person and it really was just something that caught my attention. I also have plans to use two other official visits to UNC-Charlotte and Temple."
DE Deon Pate (Trinity Christian Academy - FL)
While he is currently committed to Appalachian State, Pate has plans to visit a couple schools very shortly. He plans on heading out to Clemson this Saturday with his brother and will be taking an official visit up to Rutgers sometime in January.
DB Ihmir Marsette (Weequahic - NJ)
Rutgers is starting to push for Marsette’s commitment a little more heavily as of late. He will be taking an official visit to Rutgers sometime in December. Expect that visit to take place one of the first two weekends in the month. Also, Marsette informed Scarlet Nation that he is beginning to hear from the likes of Iowa, so stay tuned to see if Iowa heats up their pursuit of the class of 2017 defensive back.
DE Brendan Bordner (Hilliard Bradley - OH)
Rutgers is still pursuing Bordner, who is still holding RU in high regard. Bordner is looking to take a visit down to Navy this weekend as the Midshipmen are set to host Tulsa.
DE/LB Deangelo Malone (Cedar Grove – GA)
Rutgers recently offered Malone, who is a bit of a sleeper at the FBS level. He will likely be heading up to Rutgers for an official visit, with the possibility of that coming in November, but more likely in December.
Team Tidbits
Senior linebacker Greg Jones continues to remain part of the team as he continues to be at practice and on the sidelines for the games. He has been ruled out for this season and at that time, he was easily playing the best of any RU linebacker.
“It is just letting the guys know that I am there for them,” Jones said. “I am still trying to give them as much enthusiasm as I can. I still try to help them out a lot. I feel like it helps them.”
Along with Jones, injured senior Janarion Grant was on the sidelines for last weekend’s game against Indiana and that was a positive sign for the possibility of Grant returning for next season. Grant has not been seen much around the team and it appeared as though his initial plans were to leave for the NFL and not try to stay an extra year at Rutgers as a redshirt. There is still some time life for Ash to try and convince him to stay and having Grant show up on the sidelines is a positive sign. But there may still be a ways to go to convince him to remain at the college level for another year.
