Feel bad for them

Yeah, that's a bummer. This one stings. They went out and wanted it badly.

Can't wait until next year when Jordan has a full roster to surround Sanders, Laurent, Freeman, et al.

I applaud the effort tonight but I can already hear your spin next year...
Losing three seniors, plus three guys coming off missing basically the whole year .. Need time to gel. That's what we'll be hearing.

Heartbreaking loss. Regardless of what the record is, seeing an undermanned team play its heart out and lose in 3 OT is just tough - feel bad for the team. We do have some talent though - just need a little more...

they played their heart for sure but you still see how far they have to go.

First, before you say anything else about this game or this team, this was a tremendous game tonight. Both teams played their hearts out and guys on both teams made plays when it mattered. I give Illinois a lot of credit because there were a few times it would have been easy for them to slide out of town with the L. Very disappointing loss but could not be prouder of the effort and performance of this team.

Really tough loss, but great game. Most fun I've had at a game in a long time. Played their hearts out, and Sanders had one of the best individual performances I've seen .

Tremendous effort by both sides. Illinois going 30-34 from line including an incredible 21-22 in the OT when they also had to have been gassed. 5 guys for us had to completely carry the load. Foreman and Daniels were complete no shows which really bothered Eddie based on his postgame comments. Only 5 guys scored in 55 minutes of basketball.

Players put up a great effort.

But we still lost. And again blew a decent sized lead in the second half.

And when you lose so many in a row, it's not by accident.

Okay....so, they won't need time to gel and shake off the rust. Have you ever played and come off an injury or seen someone play coming off an injury? It takes time to get into a rhythm. ;That's what the early games are used for....the good news is Sanders, Williams, Laurent and others may be able to carry the team....hopefully...I'm optimistic. I guess that's a bad thing for people in Jersey...lol

Just curious....will you be happy if the team plays well next year with Jordan? No offense, but, my guess is that you'll just find something else to be negative about....maybe women's soccer if they don't repeat their same success next year as they did this year.

I'm not going to whine about it like 78CollegeAve. I'm going to salute the team.

Real cool comment. I really like guys that see positives and give the guys credit for playing their hearts out. There are two guys in this thread that just can't say anything positive.....what a horrible existence.

You my friend are clueless and a disgrace posting one negative comment after the game played tonight at the RAC. It was an instant classic, well played except for a couple of minutes with guys on both teams hitting big shots ,crashing the boards, tons of assists..Tonight was what is great about college basketball and not time for your classless comment.

I apologize for discussing the outcome of the game. It is something many hate to bring up here.

The head coach makes 1.1 million dollars. I pay multi thousand dollar on season tickets.

Sorry, questioning why the coach loses so many in a row is fair game.

Not tonight you loser!!

Ok. Maybe you can post when such discussion is allowable - what the proper mourning period for a tough loss would be. I'll keep it in mind for the future.

You my friend have never played the game and I would venture to guess have never played in a competitive game in your life to post what you posted tonight !!!

WRONG......I'm sure ruman has played competitive chess or maybe he just watched from the back row.

I just wanna see ruman post one thing to suggest he has some knowledge of the game. I'll be waiting until hell freezes over.

stop attacking the poster because you don't agree with him. You don't agree with fine, but don't call him names or say he should not be posting those things

he is talking about the game and he is talking about a long losing streak...this team is 5-32 in its last 37 games so its hardly inappropriate to be talking about anything at this point

Rutgers and Illinois played their hearts out and only one team could come out come out a winner, but both teams players deserve credit for making it the 3 OT game it was.

I hope we all can agree on that ,without attacking each other.

You are just making a bigger ass of yourself. Keep posting!!!

Really tough loss Wednesday night and a pretty quick turnaround with a travel day on Friday to Nebraska for a Saturday afternoon game with a 2pm ET start.

I hope they have enough left in the tank for that game.

Nebraska and the points are a lock for that game. We played our hearts out, but so did a severely undermanned Illini squad, missing 4 key players on the road of their own.

Congrats to them, they got it done.

Very enjoyable game----kudos to both squads for playing hard in what's been a difficult season.

Cyrock -- it was a phenomenal effort by, in effect, 6 players. I didn't mean to knock the Rutgers game. The kids could have packed it in after regulation, but didn't. My comment was -- Illi was favored by 7. At the end of regulation, who thought it would end a 9-point game.

I watched a good portion of the second half and and the OTs. You can't help but feel for the kids. That might have been their best opportunity. They had chances and fought hard but just not enough.

Was at the game and a gut wrenching loss. Amazing to me that Lewis played that many minutes. I wish Ru had gone after their big guy a little bit. 4 fouls in overtime and we never got him out of the game. 3rd overtime you could tell we had nothing left. And I will take Johnson over Daniels next year.

This should not be understated. Sometimes it is the game following the next where you see it.

-Every team has some turnover of players each year. So unless we had a team with no seniors and no injuries you'd spin it.

-At some point we have to win one of these closes games. St. John's, Creighton, Wake Forest, Indiana and last night were there for the taking and we again couldn't get it done. I understand we have no frontcourt depth - Freeman is a really nice player and Diallo/Doorson are at times serviceable but some of you make it like we lost Robert Parish and Kevin McHale in their prime. Isn't it far past time to actually win a game against a team with a pulse?

Shill, wouldn't it be nice to be able to sub? if Freeman could play maybe Jordan could trap a little bit. Can't sub at all.

Nebraska is coming off an emotional loss also. Had Maryland on the ropes and could've beaten them. It cuts both ways. But they're at home Saturday and probably look at RU as a chance to get a convincing win against a team they destroyed a month ago.

I am more worried about us physically than emotionally. Lewis was supposed to play 20 minutes, Laurent cramped, I think Williams cramped up a bit, and Sanders obviously will be exhausted.

You make a good point that mentally Nebraska could still feel the sting form MD game and will take us lightly.
