A while ago I said you were starting to sound like another poster who harped on the schedule and challenged you to grow up and be better than that. Instead you have now passed the other guy on beating a dead horse. Congrats.

I couldn't care less what you think about me, to be honest, and the past WILL ALWAYS be discussed whether you like it or not Baby. I find it simply amazing that we can talk about Graber, Shea, Anderson and Schiano, but God forbid we talk about the guy who was just fired. Give me a break, okay, I'm just speaking facts here. Wanna see his offers???

It's been amazing that we haven't had any transfer leaving in the last few months. Typically a Coaching change results in 10 - 15 leaving. I expect we will see more next week after the Spring game indicates playing status for the Fall. We need guys to leave the program now to make room for all of the Preferred Walkons we're bringing in. If we don't have kids leaving some of the Preferred Walkons will have to be held until after the Fall Semester starts, missing out on the whole Pre Season.

Could be any number of reasons for transferring. Why bother even guessing unless the kid makes a statement of some sort? I wish him the best of luck wherever he goes.

I actually thought we might see more transfers early on because of the apparent change in coaching style. Based on what I've seen (what's generally available to the public), Ash's style is much tougher than Flood's - so players might have had some culture shock.

Although, to be fair, I can only go by what I see in the press. Flood was always very careful not to say anything very negative about any players to the media; he might have been much tougher in person w/the players. Ash is very blunt w/the media right now - and will call out position groups and even specific players when he thinks it's warranted. I can only imagine that Ash is even more blunt when working with the players and not the media.

Base on some of the recruits comments, the energy and intensity of the workouts are much greater with the new coaches similar to when Schiano was here.

I expect more transfers after spring practice. Ash made a statement during Thursday's pressed when asked about possible grad transfers and the recruiting period etc.. He said they (I am paraphrasing) would be looking at the available number of scholarships after spring practice. He probably has a feel for what will be happening. It was just a feeling I had when I heard him speak; it was not a clear cut statement but the way he said it made me think that there were some transfers on the horizon.

I can't tell if this post is tongue in cheek...I'm guessing it is since on no planet would any fan want scholarship level kids who have been getting bigger and stronger and adept to the new playbook to transfer to make room for preferred walk ons who may see the field three to four years from now if they are lucky...

And why would a TE transfer when RU is currently starting a former walk on? Maybe he is homesick? Can't imagine he can be that far down the depth chart

I thought the same thing! Why would you want a scholarship level player to leave so a walk on can play. However, we have to factor in the fact that many posters believe Flood was soooo bad at everything that a walk on offer from Ash must be a better player than a scholarship offer from Flood. I am hoping that these walk ons are good enough to fill out the roster with quality talent. We shall see.

Here's a lesson in recruiting. First of all: Recruiting is an inexact science. You Recruit kids with the expectation that they will develop into players that will compete for starting positions and by the time a kid has put 2 years in the program you can honestly tell if he is progressing toward the goal or stagnating. Most kids leave the program when the demands of the program are greater than the fleeting possibility of reward, this is true in all programs.
Division 1 Coaching is a business and the sooner non productive kids with very little future leave the program the sooner you can bring in kids that have the "potential" to "possibly" start in the future. One more thing, Ash is bringing in Walkons this year who would have been scholarship players in past years. Overall, this is the best crop of Walkons to come to Rutgers in a long, long time.

Tell Ash what you think on Saturday. He will welcome that...

I find it hard to believe that all these walk ons are p5 scholarship quality players who slipped through the cracks prior to signing day and received no viable offers from other p5 schools. There may be one among them that makes it big. Walk ons occasionally do but do you really think all these guys are high quality players that all the othe coaches missed? I have to believe there is a reason they were still available. Now, that having been said, I don't believe Ash would give a kid PWO status if he didn't see something in him. But I am not going to believe they are scholarship quality until I see it.

If these kids would have been scholarship players in the past why didn't Flood offer them scholarships last year? Also, since so many posters keep insisting that there is no talent in the program because Flood couldn't recruit, giving them scolarships in the recruiting classes of the past must mean they have no talent. Also, since we didn't have BIG talent when we entered the league saying these guys would have been scholarship level in the past means they are not BIG talent players. So, in a strange way, you are agreeing with me.

I wish the young man nothing but the best going forward, don't get me wrong, but it is what it is.
Maybe you could just say that next time instead of posting something that sounds like you couldn't wait for him to transfer because you think he stinks.

As for Folkerts: good luck wherever you wind up. Sorry it didn't work out for you here for whatever reason.

We don't really know why he transferred. I don't think he is a bad player like a lot of people here think.

Just because a kid is on scholarship doesn't mean that the new coaching staff (or even the old) would consider that kid to be more valuable than a free scholarship to use. Its kind of a sad part of the process but there are kids on every roster on the country that coaches encourage or hope transfer

Duggan or one of the NJ.com writers said he wanted to be closer to home. But that never stops some from taking backhanded swipes at players, particularly ones recruited by Flood.

The question wasn't about a free scholarship to use, the poster was referring to limits on number of players allowed to practice with the team before fall classes start (105?) and that a transfer would allow more walk ons to practice with the team and maybe make an impact...

...to which I say that is insane thinking that a true freshman walk on would have an impact this year that you would rather scholarship
Players leave the program to make room for walk ons to practice starting in the summer. If one is hoping for freshman walk ons to make a difference this year I'd say we have a real depth and quality problem.

The point still stands that the players transferring more than likely won't be playing so there isn't really a loss. Its not too much of a stretch to think its more valuable to see what a younger player is capable of vs what you know

Since his commitment how many times have you heard his name in practice reports? I don't mean to ding the kid but the writing seems pretty clear

He is a redshirt freshman this year, how many quality programs that have good depth do you hear about guys that are just going into their redshirt freshman year?

You are naive if you think a quality younger scholarship player transferring out isn't really a "loss", say that in a few years when there is a lack of upper- classmen that have transferred and walk ons are given scholarships just because they aren't enough scholar ship athletes on the team.

There are transfers all of the time at programs across the country. I don't want to labor the point because I don't want to talk bad about a kid who represented RU, but TE is one of our weakest groups and yet he was still buried on the depth chart and making very little noise. If he were as "quality" as you seem to allude to, don't you think we would be hearing more about him? I don't expect walk ons to be given the scholarship, but instead used on another kid in the upcoming class. Depth is going to be an issue due to poor recruiting, not transfers that are a result of it.

Exactly. I think we are going to see next year and after incoming freshmen rising up the depth chart and out performing Floods 2 stars. Hopefully I'm wrong and Ash can coach them up but sometimes the talent isn't always there.
