Food for thought: Should we Slow it Down?

Was thinking about how we seem to push the pace on offense (particularly when JWill, Derkack or JMike bring the ball up).

We also tend to shoot early in the shot clock.

Seems like we make more mistakes when we try to go fast, either through unforced errors or driving into traffic.

I’m wondering if, despite our attempts to win with offense, we should slow it down.

Slowing it down would reduce the number of times we have to defend (which is our weakness), while still giving us ample opportunity to score ourselves, especially when we can get the ball to Dylan or Ace to find their shot.

Just a thought.

Bigger issue is allowing second chance shots. Heard somewhere that RU is top 5 in the country in forcing the opposition to use the shot clock, but bottom 10 in 2nd chance points (or something like that).

Perhaps it's the JWill, Derkack and JMike bringing the ball up that's the problem?

But yes, if those 3 have the ball they should not be trying to push the pace and create/initiste the offense.

Which begs the question: if their offensive role is dribble up slowly then give to Dylan/Ace - what exactly are they offering over others who may(?) at least provide a shooting option while slowly dribbling the ball up court?

At the very least, whoever has the ball on a break should not be racing at a billion miles per hour into traffic. We need to "run smart" rather than out of control.

Is our pace even that fast? Are we top 150 in the country? It's tricky. For a guy like Dylan who likes to get to the rim, it's easier to do that before the defense is set. Sadly, JWill and Derkack play the same way.

Dylan can go at whatever speed he wants....the others like at the town pool....no running or the lifeguard puts you in time out
Absolutely, Dylan is the exception. If he decides to speed up, it’s because he sees an opening. I totally trust his instincts on that.

Not at all . Hated walking the ball up the floor Against Ohio State. We pushed pace against Alabama and A& M and played freely and got a lot of easier buckets. Also got into our action within 5 seconds of crossing half court. Have to keep pace up and have Dylan and J Williams attacking as often as as quick as possible.
