For those wondering why

Good article. Just shows how much confidence Ash's peers have for him. Give him the time and Ash will fix this and he will be very successful.

Two things:
1. Finish what you start. Good message.

2.

He acknowledged that they’ll have to get creative to compete with the league’s more talent-laden programs.

“If we’re going to line up with Michigan State and Ohio State and go punch for punch right now do I think that’s the best avenue for success? Probably not,” he said. “I say that a little bit out of ignorance not ever seeing these guys play in person, but yeah, I think we’ve got to do something a little bit different. I think we’ve got to create an edge or an advantage for our guys that’s different form what’s done in the Big Ten traditionally.”

All I want to see next year is a team that is better at the end of the season than at the beginning as this was usually not the case under Kyle Flood. Flood's teams seemed to start fast and then limp to the finish line when teams figured out what he was doing.

Or as Cali would say, "Meathead football". This is why I'm fully on board with the transition to a spread and a separation from the Schiano/Flood way of thinking. We need young, dynamic, intelligent coaches who will think outside of the traditional RU approach to recruiting, systems and schemes.

I would also like to at least appear prepared to play, even if we are physically outmatched.

NIU looked like they were ready to play tOSU last year. They made a game of it. Yeah, JT Barrett was not the starting QB. But they kept it close. And now we have the same defensive coordinator. So, as always, I am hopeful we will be more competitive in future games.

Agreed. And it wasn't just NIU. Indiana has given OSU a game each of the past two seasons as has a VT squad that hasn't exactly been vintage the past few years. I get it...the Big Ten is a grind and the challenge is to compete week to week; not just a one-off like our game vs. Michigan State this season.

Good article.

Good article. I would change the thread title in case the mysterious approach doesn't attract as many reads. People will want to have read that article.

Thanks for posting.
