The competition to replace Briscoe is between Mike Dare, who did not take a snap in two years at Rutgers, and freshman redshirts Ty Brock and Eric Schmid of The Woodlands.

The most intriguing aspect of the season will be the ongoing quarterback battle, which includes incumbent starter Ryan Stover, JuCo Transfer Daniel Rose and Joe Flacco's younger brother Tom.

Flacco went to Rutgers for high school ...

What ever happened to the QB recruit we had that everyone here loved because he was an Elite11 quarterback, then decommitted after Ash was hired?

Still a QB at Temple. Anthony Russo.

2017 (Redshirt Freshman): Was in a four-way battle for the starting QB position this summer ... saw first game action as PAT/FG holder in home finale versus #15 UCF.

Will be sitting behind Don Bosco's Nutile, despite having the best arm among the QBs--sounds familiar.

Russo has yet to attempt a college pass. Late last season he was used as the holder for field goals and PATs. A former Archbishop Wood star, he has arguably the best arm among the quarterbacks. He has also made a significant stride from this time last year, according to the coaches, and appears the favorite to be the backup. He has enjoyed a strong camp, which continued with his play in Saturday's scrimmage.

I give Laviano credit for getting a chance to play one final year.

How is Anthony Russo doing down at Temple?

I’m pulling for Chris Laviano at Dago State. Hard for me to believe that RU sat him down for lesser QB’s along the way.

The younger Flacco, a New Jersey native, joined the Scarlet Knights as a walk-on in 2017 after transferring from Western Michigan, where he appeared in 13 games over his first two seasons. He sat out this season because of NCAA transfer rules, and because he graduated from Rutgers in May, Flacco has two years of eligibility remaining.

QB Tom Flacco, brother of Ravens' Joe Flacco, reportedly joining Towson as graduate transfer

If Bolin can get a look from the NFL than Laviano will to. Physical ability was not his problem. It was that he simply liked partying more than playing football.

servicable? oh dear lord

Rutgers has been playing football for 148 years ??
RU's sixth best single season passing yardage total belongs to CL ... along with the 9th highest ingle season TD pass total. All behind an O Line that was well below average and afforded him little protection.

How can anyone with more than 2 or 3 brain cells not think that's a serviceable QB ?? just shake my head every day when CL has been discussed on this board. incredible

Still waiting for that breakout year from Rettig to propel him to the pros that was predicted by many here.....

"But but but.... without Carroo .... Blah Blahh Blahh... "

Firgured I'd say it... before that inevitable canned response gets parroted by his detractors

So comical its not funny

Yeah, he is so awesome. Btw, college football switched to 12 games season after 2004. He avg 187 yds passing per game that year with an TD:INT ratio of 1.33.

Losers mentality to cling to anything slightly positive. This kid can't catch on anywhere else...he was our starting QB. Maybe if we had someone with half a pulse we'd be even better?? Just ya know ... thinking logically here.

Who's clinging to anything? I was just posting some statistics to refute a moronic comment.

Heres an article about CL and his upcoming season at LIU. I guess LIU has found him to be serviceable as well.

Its moronic to think hes servicable... His not even D1 material... there at least 240 Serviceable D1 QBs each season, hes not even 1 of them, forget that he was a starter for a big 10 team. Maybe we're bad because we have players like him start?

Laviano a victim of that Drew Mehninger disaster. The "Dance Shuffle Chuck & Duck" gimmick spread offense. That 2016 squad had 4-6 win talent.

The “gimmick spread offense” being used by a whole lot of HS’s and colleges in the country
