OT!

Who is ranked higher?

I guess this game shows you never know.

I know nothing about those two teams. I hope North Texas since we are still giving 12 points and this game might mean Indy is beatable. Too early in the season to tell about anyone.

#3 Indy gonna lose and the students in Fort Wayne will storm the court. You can see it coming!

THAT was COOL!!!

1st Top 25 win EVER for Fort Wayne.

Love seeing scenes like that.

Fort Wayne outstanding when Indiana was playing man-to-man. Their dribble drive in the paint killed Indiana. Not so much when Indiana switched to 2-3 zone. Nevertheless, great win by Fort Wayne and shocking upset.

Thought that Indiana struggled on offense for the entire night. Didn't see the same movement as the past few games and their shooting wasn't good. In addition, Fort Wayne (that Calhoun kid who fouled out late) did an outstanding job defending the rim. Indiana really struggled to score points in the paint, whether to Thomas Bryant or on the dribble drive.

Edit. 7-24 at the 3 point line well under their 44% average prior to the game

That was one hell of a win for Fort Wayne. But boy did Indiana look horrible in that game. Number 1 for them, I believe Blackman plays out of control and is a ball hog. He committed from what I saw at least five turnovers in the second half. Credit still has to go to the Fort Wayne kids who fought and fought all night and held their composure even when Indiana went on that run at the end of regulation to tie the game.

Hopefully for Indiana this is a major lesson learned. You can't just walk into someone else's building and expect to show up and win by thirty.

I just raised my win prediction total for the season by 1.

Haha!
(Hey, you never know!)

If people remember we played Indy tough at home the first Big Ten game. RU in that game missed like 6 layups.

First game of the year and the games right around Thanksgiving is when you tend to see OOC losses like this.

With the 3 point shot and the shot clock under rated teams have a chance to stay in games and pull upsets .In most cases ,however, they get blown out because of the talent disparity.

I watched that game, and now I can't figure out how they were ranked #3. I thought they were going to be dynamite this year, but I thought they had a lot of studs coming back. Were they missing players? The team that was on the floor last night was not a top ten quality squad in my view. I guess I'm not in basketball mode yet, I can't remember why I thought they'd be so good this year...

Believe that Indiana is very talented and they were ranked 3rd due to their season opening win against Kansas.

Similar to last year, it's a matter of their commitment to playing defense and taking care of the basketball (turnovers). Last night for 30 minutes, their man-to-man defense was horrid. When they switched to the 2-3 zone, they figured out Fort Wayne's weakness

They lost Yogi (heart and soul of the team), Troy Williams, Bielfeldt and Zeisloft (3 point specialist) from last year's team, as well as, Colin Hartman is out indefinitely due to his knee. Last night OG, probabaly one of their better defenders, didn't play for most of the evening due to supposed illness.

Their recruiting class is also talented and it's a matter of player development for Jones, Davis, Green. They also have 2 transfers, Newkirk from Pitt and McSwain (think he's a JUCO transfer?).

Last night's loss reminded me of Indiana early last season. No defense and tons of turnovers. After their Duke loss they committed to playing defense and improved enough to win the B1G regular season championship.

dconifer, it's hard to say if they were missing any players. I don't know the squad that well, but you're right, they didn't even look like a top 10 team or a top 25 team for that matter.

Preseason rankings are about where people think a team is going to be, not where they are, and with so much talent spread all over, good teams that don't play well -- especially on the road (credit to IU for doing that) in a place that had to be unbelievably fired up -- will get beaten sometimes.

And yes, that's why college basketball can be so great.

And in basketball-mad Indiana, it's especially cool. And Mastodons is a cool name, too.

I saw part of their exhibition game vs little Hope College on BTN. Hope was right in it for about 24-25 minutes. Indiana looked really bad on defense. They finally got interested and blew them out.

That's the knock on Indiana this year. It may not be the last time it cost them a game.
