What happened?

1) lackadaisical, thought game was over;
2) we were gassed;
3) we switched to prevent and it didn’t prevent;
4) credit VT’s play calling and execution;
5) Penn State sucks

Missed assignments
Left the outside running lanes wide open
Bad tackling on many plays

Team looked sluggish in first.
I've seen RU do the zombie act after past bye weeks so that's what I thought.
If it was flu that would make sense.
RU had ball for 39 minutes so defense shouldn't have been gassed late.

VTs DL was excellent and they didn't fade in late quarter.
They looked like athletes just in their stances - no chunkies
Mongo only had 3.4 avg and VT LBs had most tackles.

RU secondary leading tackles again.
A QB with 13 completions/137 yds wouldn't cause DBs to have most tackles.
I dont like seeing secondary making a lot of tackles.
Hamilton was busy though

Our team was not prepped for the heat, by that I mean I did not see any equipment on the sidelines to cool down the players. I just commented in another thread it was way hotter than originally forecast. I know it's not very accurate, but my car thermometer was registering upper 80's as we drove in around 1. I think our D got worn down from the heat and sun, and then VT got the momentum off of our last two failed drives.

RU controlled the ball for 40 mins, VT offense had the ball for 20 mins. Defense should not have been gassed. I think there was some technique failures setting the edge. I’m a little concerned about the defense. The pass rush with 4 guys is not getting there. The rush defense was not that good either against VT. They need to play better on Friday.

This would be very un-Schiano like. The one thing you can usually bet on is he’ll account for every tiny detail that could result in an advantage or a disadvantage.

And, the Tech sideline was in the shade for the entire game. Our sideline was in direct sunlight until well into the 4th quarter. It definitely could have made a difference. It was mid 80’s with no cloud cover and basically no wind to speak of.

We had no fans, cooling stations or cover on the sidelines. I'm not sure what happened but we either forget our sh*t in Piscataway, thought VT would supply it, thought it was going to be in the low 70's or thought it would be cloudy all day.

I think 2. They probably got 2 hours of sleep, played hard early in the hot sun and got a little worn down. It was not typical of the team.

Why 2 hours of sleep ? Didn’t the team travel down the night before?
Also not having fans on the sideline is a blunder by the Staff.

*** apologies for repeating myself

Team was getting baked in the sun for 3 quarters on our sideline. VT was in the shade the entire game. D plays lights out for 3 quarters. We didn't just start to "suck" for no reason in the 4th.

Gave up 143 yards in the 1st half
Gave up 34 yards in the 3rd quarter
THEN gave up 143 in the 3rd???

....guys playing in their 1st game (Powell, Bailey) and making their first start (Dixon), PLUS that sun for 3Q, added up IMHO.
