  • Asst. coach Brandin Knight was at practice today with a boot on his foot. With Knight being sidelined of sorts with the boot recently, it allowed Vetrone to go out recruiting the other day with coach Pike.
  • Geo Baker looks much better from deep, at one point he went for about five in a row in a little pre practice 3pt competition with Issa Thiam. Also you can tell just from watching practice today that Baker is the teams captain - cheering guys on, talking to them nonstop.
  • Both Mathis and Kiss are going to be fighting for playing time at that two spot all year long it seems. Both guys appear to be solid shooters and don’t be shocked to see both of them on the court this year, as Pike likes his three guard lineups.
  • Omoruyi is once again Rutgers most improved player by far. This offseason Omoruyi told me that he has been working a lot on his shooting and is much more confident in his shot both inside and out.
  • Doorson looks very healthy and appears to be in very good shape at the moment. He definitely lost some significant weight as you can tell from the photo below and is currently listed at 275 pounds. He also added some much needed muscle, which should improve his post game a lot.

  • When it comes to the bigs as a whole, you see a more athletic group of bigs compared to last season. Doucoure looks to have improved a bit and Omoruyi has the ability to truly guard just about anywhere from the 3-5. Also, Shaq Carter looks extremely athletic and should provide a nice post game prescience for the Scarlet Knights.
  • This offseason Rutgers added a transfer in walk on guard Nick Brooks out of West Virginia Wesleyan. He is a former NJ kid out of Franklin Parks and is listed as a junior.
  • Former Rutgers walk on Jake Dadika is back with the team this season as a grad. assistant
  • We also saw 2020 4-star Isaiah Cottrell today walking throughout practice with his Rutgers jersey on. He definitely has the height of a big man, but he will need to put on some weight to compete at this level.
