this is my first post but I have been reading these boards since 06 but finally decided to make an account this summer. I can't believe what I just watched last night. I have been a huge flood supporter since he was hired but that ship has sailed. This coaching staff has absolutely no idea what they are doing. To start Rossi doesn't watch game film or he is just so inept is a d coordinator that he doesn't understand tendency's of an offense. I watched the previous two PSU games and they absolutely no passing game he should have stacked the box and taken away that running game and make hackenberg beat you. He is not a good passer and has regressed since his freshman year. PSU ran the same 5 plays over and over again and they still couldn't stop it. Yes that has to do with the players but it also has to be put on the coaching staff for not making the adjustments.

Enough with this loyalty bull**** that flood has with the QB's it's getting a little out of control. I understand he wasn't at the game yesterday but he made it clear to Wilson that at no point laviano should be taken out unless due to injury. If a guy isn't getting it done you need to make the change we are probably the only coaching staff in the country that wouldn't make the change. Laviano has no arm he misses high on way to many throws and throws off his back foot. Yeah it may have been his first start in a hostile environment but obviously the situation was to much for him and he needed to be pulled. This coming week of flood has any balls at all the will have a QB competition to determine the starting QB for Kansas. We have no deep threat with laviano at QB.

I'm not giving up on this team but this coaching staff needs to shake things up give rettig a shot. One thing I will give schiano is that when he was at ru is when a QB was struggling he never hesitated to bring in the back up. I would be saying the same thing if rettig was struggling as the starter.

Good first post . Good point on Rossi . He was hired off an unsuccessful stint as an assistant on ten 2013 disaster . Not a recipe for success .
Time for Rutgers to blow it up.

Yup I know many people don't want that because we might lose recruits. Well look what happened last time we made a hire to save a recruiting class.......

Yeah obviously but changes needs to be made. If that means we lose some commits and some players transfer then so be it. But Rutgers will not be the program we all want it to be with flood leading it.

What took so long? Board needs more reasonable posters.

I believe teams take on characteristics of the coach. Schiano was insanely pationate about D and it showed on our team. Flood is laid back on O and will take what other team gives. We do not impose our will on other teams, we react to what they do. We do not have an attack mindset. I would rather have a TD from over aggressive scheme, then watch a team methodically grind us and we do nothing to stop it.

Blowing things up midseason is not a real option.

I too would like to hear someone who wants to blow up the staff mid-season explain how that would be done and how that would be better than keeping staff until the end of the season.

Blowing up the staff would obviously be terrible. That's not an option. I believe changes will be made at the end of the season and flood will be shown the door. If that means we lose recruits ten fine. We have already seen what happens when you make a hire solely on the purpose of keeping a recruiting class intact.

You are spot on regarding Rossi....imagine being the Penn St. OC....run the "xyz".....hmmm, they're not crowding the line, run it again......ok, run it again.....why not, again

You guys are off base. RU DID have 8 men in the box the majority of time, especially in the 2nd half.

They were trying to scheme against the run. Just couldn't get it done.

PSU was very well balanced in the first half, and their quick drops made it pretty impossible to get any rush. In the second half, very run heavy and RU adjusted well.

You can't draw up a scheme that will work when you are getting beat soundly in the trenches.

Not saying Rossi is a great coach, but to lay this in him -not much you can do. No secondary, undersized line missing it's best player by far. LBS are ok, but look around the B1G and you will see what a really good LB corp looks like. Turay has been an incomplete player his whole career and is not going to be effective without a threat in the middle. People around here thinking he's Joey Bosa, when in reality he's Deon Barnes.

I also blame Rossi for not seeing his D wasn't set on Lynch's untouched 75 yrd TD run to cap 1st half. Granted you have to expect a 2-minute drill passing attack there, but the LBs completely vacated the middle of the field. You have to call a TO and get your team set. Terrible job by the coaching staff, and that play sealed the loss for us. We need to bring in a defensive guru a la Fridge last year on the offensive side of the ball.

Yeah stacking the box is great and everything but that does absolutely nothing if your only bring 4 men every time. Yes we blitzed yesterday a total of about 5 times. We should be blitzing more often with such a young secondary. They are struggling with there zone assignments so blitzing and forcing them to play man would probably benefit them. As far as rossi's game plan goes it was terrible. Longa got stuck covering a receiver about 4 times last night and all 4 went for a first down. Either Rossi can't communicate what he wants to do on d or he actually has no clue what he wants to to on d.

What I don't understand is that teams with far less reputation and talent than Rutgers know how to play defense against perceived better competition.UConn against Missouri is a yesterday example along with Temple against PSU in a previous week.

Temple had a better defense than Rutgers last year and brought back all their starters. Seriously, take a look at who RU is throwing out there. There is probably not one player besides Longa that would start for a PSU team that is a bunch of young guys. And even he would only be on equal footing if Wartman-White had not gotten hurt. Turay would be a specialist like he should be.

you stacked the box all night.. and when you got tired you run-blitzed holes.. and got GASHED big. Did you not watch the game? Your D has no chance as you are not STRONG UP THE MIDDLE.. Turray seems to be much less effective...coaches now have tape on him. Your D played hard, they simply were overmatched. 2 years in a Row your OL hasn't got any push vs. PSU... the 2nd half of last years game I think RU had 3 yards rushing in the 2nd half.. and yet everbody calls for Nova's head (now Laviano)--no QB is good without a running threat.

If you watch, Temple is 3-0... and Buffalo won comfortably on the road.. at this point RU would lose to Temple 9/10 times and probably not even beat Buffalo at a neutral site. RU plays with good emotion, but emotion won't carry you thru an entire season in the trenches.. simply too many recruiting misses. I think your special teams will prove to be average as well, WSU is simply awful and your have a good returner.. let's see what he does vs the confernce before we annoint him Rocket Ismael.-sg
