GAME 15 WISCONSIN: For all intents and purposes, that's a wrap

From what I can tell in the short spurts I visit this board, you and a couple others are interested in stats. So, I'll offer you my standard rant about "points off turnovers". Tell me what the difference is between points scored after a dead-ball turnover and any other possession. Even points after a steal isn't that much different than points after a defensive rebound.

Hardly anybody does this (or maybe even understands it), but I prefer calculating the points lost due to turnovers. Last night, Wisconsin scored at 1.39 points per non-turnover possession. If they had zero turnovers (and scored at that rate), they would have scored 22 more points. For RU, with only 6 turnovers, they only lost 8 points. So it was +14 for RU.
I believe points off turnovers only includes live bal turnovers (not ones where the possession starts out if bounds). It does matter and it’s why a turnover on a ball thrown out of bounds is better than a live ball one that leads to easier points via fastbreak.

Everyone needs to pump the brakes on Lathan as a star offensive player next season. Has he went left once all season? Once he’s a top 2 guy on the scouting report, he will struggle unless he develops that handy

Feels like I walked into a funeral service and bac read the eulogy.

I say let’s bury the team that lost 7 games and go on a winning streak.

Then hopefully rumors of our demise would have been greatly exaggerated.

Well, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure "points off turnovers" is counted for all types of turnovers, live and deadball. That's part of the reason why it's a dumb stat. I agree that live ball turnovers are more dangerous, however.

Even if it were only liveball turnovers, it's still dumb. I can't think of a meaningful difference between scoring off a steal on the fast break and scoring off a defensive rebound on the fast break. Both are situations where the possession has changed during live play and led to a basket. What if you score after a steal, but not on the fast break? How is that any different than scoring on any other type of possession?

The more important impact of a turnover, at least to me, is that the offense had a zero-point possession without even getting a shot up. Whether the opposition scores after that isn't as meaningful (for the aforementioned reasons). That's why I prefer points lost due to turnovers
