Temple was 24-8, 13-3 last year!
Won their exhibition game against University of Charleston ( 12-19 last year) 92-44 at McGonigle Hall and opening game against Delaware St ( 3-27 last year) 95-72 at home

Temple missing their best player, Butts, due to injury. Butts.
Trailing 5-0. Awful outside shooting so far.

RU up 24-13 at end of first . Shooting has heated up. This looks like a C Viv team of old w the pressing, pressure and rebounding. And some decent shooting guards.

RU full court press is destroying Temple, RU up 40-20 w 3:30 left in half ! Wow. Shades of 10 years ago !

Please don't take this the wrong way, but what the hell was that? Am i watching Ohio State or Rutgers! Its been what, 5+ years since we've seen a dominant offensive performance like that?

Shades of 10 years ago. We have some very skillled guards, that' for sure. Our big rebound well, not as adept as our guards w shooting and ball handling, obviously.

The 5x5 press is a thing of beauty tonight.

70-52 7:43 left in the 4th got close in the 3rd but it blew out again on the press and several steals

Things that impressed me from the box score alone:

After an awful 11/25 A/TO ratio in game 1, a very nice 19/12 ratio in game 2.

Seven 3-pters from 4 different players

All 14 players played at least 7 minutes, 11 played more than 10 minutes, 4 in double figures (none with more than 12), 7 with more than 8 pts

After winning ZERO games on the road last year, it was pretty ballsy move to start the season with three games on the road. 2-0 so far.

We were at the game in McGonigle last night. A couple points to make:

1. The Rutgers crowd outnumbered the Temple fans. And we’re much louder
2. The depth that CVS now has allows her to press more and play much more aggressively on offensive end.
3. With several players who can shoot (and make) 3s, we should be able to outscore teams rather than depending on tight D to hold down the opposition.
4. We won’t have to depend strictly on Tyler for scoring. She had 26 in the opener at JMU but struggled last night. IIRC she was 1 for 8 and then 2 for 12 but the lead still got up to 20. She wound up with 10.
5. CVS isn’t afraid to use lineups you wouldn’t expect. Early in the 4th quarter she played Kate Hill, Kathleen Fitzgerald, Jordan Wallace, Caitlin Jenkins and Mark Gilles for extended minutes.
6. Noticed a lot more teaching going on when players came out of the game. Coaches spoke with the players and seemed to be providing instruction and encouragement. One specific - when Jordan Wallace came out after a missed assignment CVS stood and spoke to Jordan for a bit and then sent her back into the game.
7. Did I mention we have 3 Point shooters galore this year??

This will be a much more enjoyable team to follow this year. I hope some of the skeptics and critics make a trip to the RAC to watch them. You just might like the energy and enthusiasm they show.

Having watched the replay last night, agree with a lot of what 67 said.

What struck me was how "interchangeable" the players seemed--and in a good way. There were so many long, athletic, quick, players on the court at all times, I had a hard time recognizing who was who (and the lack of names on the back of the jerseys didn't help). At all points, we had at least one 3-pt shooter, one dynamic rebounder, and complete athleticism at nearly every position.

WHERE the scoring came from was also fascinating. If I remember correctly, Cryor had all her points in the first quarter, Rollins had all her scoring in the second quarter. Harris had almost all of her scoring at the end of the 3rd quarter. When opponents don't know where the points will come from, makes the team difficult to guard.

If CVS can keep the depth she has right now throughout the season, we can be a team that presses for nearly 40 minutes with players not getting too tired.

We did this all with Scaife having an off game--you can tell she's still the same Scaife, just a bit rusty. Once she gets back to 100%, that makes the team even more dynamic.

I was also at the game last night and was also very impressed with what I saw. This team was fun to watch. I want to especially call out the play of Jaz Rollins. The dramatic improvement in her play since last year amazed me. Her stat line of 12 points, 4 steals and 3 blocks (!) with 0 turnovers was impressive, but her tenacity on defense with 0 personal fouls blew me away. I kept asking my sister "Where was this player last year?" Her response: "She was coached up."

I really hope people will come to the games this year and see for themselves just how different this team is from the one we saw play last year. I know it is too early in the season to predict great things for this team, but I do feel good about stating that if/when we lose games, it won't be for lack of effort or lack of offense. If the team can stay healthy, it also won't be for lack of depth. All 14 women have played in both games and all have contributed. I did not see a weak link on the team.
