Gavin Wimsatt has the body structure and talent to be a Big Ten starter. The kid is 19 years old, give him some time to mature. When he has been successful, we’ve seen flashes of a GREAT quarterback. Evan Simon is not the guy and will never be the guy. The offense was not dynamic with Simon. There’s a reason why Gavin (16 power 5 offers including some top SEC programs) was a top 15 qb in the nation out of high school and threw in the Elite 11 finals while Evan was top 75 with (7 low level power 5 offers).
This is a brand new offense under Kirk and will need some time to mesh. Besides Garrett Riley, offenses do not mesh right away and need to go through a couple of weeks of gameplay. Therefore, it’s normal for the offense to face challenges. There will be no need to press the panic button right away. By the last game, we will see a more complete and elevated version of Gavin.
Yes, his decision making might not be the best, but that will iron itself out with experience. He’s a true duel threat quarterback who is great on his feet. The problems that have been shown on the field (lack of sliding, inaccurate throws, etc) all come with the lack of experience. He’s extremely raw and needs to be developed properly.
There is a reason why Coach Schiano is making comments on Gavin and naming him the starter. Trust the process and wait till we see live footage.
I am on the Gavin Wimsatt success train and will constantly believe in QB1 until it runs out of steam.
I’m incredibly excited for the season and can’t wait to see the team out on the field week 1.
Let’s go RU!
