Geno on suicide watch?

Guys they did lose probably the number one womens player in college basketball Paige Bueckers so I think that would really have something to do with the loss and there will be more as she is out for up to two months

He has come to the end of term. UConn will continue to fade away as these small losses grow over time to larger ones. He will end up retiring at the end of this year or next. It has been good for UConn but the lights are going out.

That's the thing I've always said about Geno and UConn. I think he is a good coach, no doubt. But he has never been so much head and shoulders above everyone else. I always felt like the players make his legend moreso than the other way around. Back in the day, CVS had success when the talent was about equal. That is what you are seeing these days.

He got the program established with Lobo and crew and has had the best talent in the country every year since. He had to share with Tenn early and now, since there are so many young ladies playing the game today, there is enough to go around for other teams. He still has more than most, a team full of Top 5-10 players including many #1 prospects. Besides S.. Car right now, who else has that level of talent. This group struggled mightily before Paige came and took over the leadership role and we'll see if those other 13 or 14 Top 10 All-Americans can get it done. So many coaches would love to have that roster even if it did not include Paige. Remove Paige and that roster still should be a favorite to win the National Chip. And they should be able to handle GTech. Give that roster to Kara Lawson. She looks like she would know what to do with it.

No matter who the coach is save for maybe Belichek in football you are only as agood a coach as your talent; Phil Jackson perfect example they say greatest coach but look at who he had in those championship years!!

You know the great ones when you see them with less talent, go take on the titans with the elite talent, and they can make it a ballgame if not win it. Have to give Nell Fortner credit. UConn roster is much more talented than hers.

I give Phil credit though as a great coach because he was the one who was able to get the most out of the talent in Chicago and in LA. The coaches he replaced couldn't get it done with that talent. The Zenmaster earned his coaching accolades, IMO.

But I generally agree with your point.

And Belicheck stunk last year with little talent. He went out and spent money this past offseason and also got a good, productive quarterback. The players make the difference for him too.

He may or may not be nearing the end of his "term" but it won't be because of small losses growing.

He lost a game where his best player was injured, his "up and coming" future best player was injured, 2 other players were injured - how would we have done in 2007 if Piph and Zurich went down with injury (to randomly pick a star and supporting cast) Or Carson and Piph? Or Ajavon and Vaughn?

I do think he seems to be getting frustrated by it all, so I'm not sure he won't retire sooner rather than later, although he has made it fairly clear (apparently) that he wants the most wins before he retires. He is just a very few games behind Tara for that number.

He makes so many comments about how difficult it is to coach today. I think he is having a difficult time adjusting to the new generation of players. Methods that worked in the past do longer work. I wouldn't be surprised if he retires soon.

Geno usally finds a way to win and setbacks like this happen occasionally to him, but more often to others.
Just his losing this game, while shorthanded, shows how much he's expected to win.

Looks like Paige's injury may have a silver lining. Now those other star players will not feel like they should defer to her. You saw Evinna Westbrook and Dorka Juhasz finally start to look like the All-American players that they are and get into the fold. With Paige, they were doing little to nothing. If Paige is able to come back healthy and strong, her injury may be the thing that got the team to develop to the point where they can get over the hump of a S. Car, Stanford, or NC St.

and another one enters portal.
UConn sophomore Mir McLean is in the transfer portal.
I really think that today's kids do not respond to the kind of negative motivation that he uses. Watching his post game pressers is painful.

That may be true, but the 2 transfers this season are largely what most UConn transfers out are - very talented players that - for whatever reason - don't get to play. Because Geno recruits at such a high level, in effect players get recruited over.

Yes, I was going to echo that point Knight Time. I think a lot of these top players may think differently about going to a UConn or S. Car unless they know they are the headline player like a Paige or Fudd. Look at Cardoso with S. Car, she is often sitting when the game is in the balance. I doubt she expected that when she transferred.

Georgia Tech also beat Georgia by 1 and that is Georgia’s only loss this year

I posted earlier and I still believe that UConn men's and Women's teams will be no longer relevant on the national level within 5 years.
