Sounds like a good plan and set up an end of season celebration honoring her years as the RUWBB HC, what she meant for RUWBB and Rutgers University along with having the curent RUWBB players and those from past teams be there in a ceremony where CVS is granted Coach Emeritus status. How about CVS announcing her retirement plans, after Victory 1000, and receive a gracious greeting in every arena RU visits this season. Time to plan for the future and honor the past.
Can see your point, but at some time we must be ready to see Vivian retire and start thinking of her replacement.Um, that is a terrible idea. Set the program back years.
That sort of thing will only work if there is already a successor set and in place. Holly to Pat. It would work if Chris was going to take Geno's job (she isn't). Robert Morris, where the son succeeded his father could have done it (not sure if they actually did). I'm sure there are other cases.
With all due respect, I am not hoping for a promotion of current staff when the time comes. Not saying they are bad coaches or can't be successful head coaches, but would like RU to get an experienced coach. As Scarlette says, letting it be known you are replacing the head coach at the end of the season with "unknown" is a recipe for loss of all recruits and, given the way NCAA transfers are going, most of the existing team as well.
I will add that, for example, if Vivian had announced her retirement in, say 2008, in favor or Marianne Stanley - that would have worked. But that sort of situation is rare.
If the AD doesn't have a list of replacements for CVS that he is interested in pursuing, then he isn't doing his job. Our former AD out here at AZ, who went on to Alabama, Greg Byrne, was quite open about it. Part of being successful - and in large part he was, which is why he is at Alabama - is always being prepared. Can see your point, but at some time we must be ready to see Vivian retire and start thinking of her replacement.
2018 seems to be a good recruiting class, but it's 2019 and further that worries me.
I might have jumped the gun in agreeing on CVS announcing she's going to retire after she wins her 1000th was a good idea: But I'm worried about the future and think the retirement PR and possible replacements names might blunt any damage the retirement announcement gives RUWBB recruiting efforts and with the replacement
being named quickly after season ends, minimal damage might be the result and with the right Candidate being hired ( having most of the season to look) RU might even bring in a good recruiting class in 2019 and every year after.
I won't mind seeing Vivian stay on, but also feel if this season doesn't bring an NCAA tourney invite, it might be time to bring in a new HC, while giving C.Vivian Stringer all the respect she richly deserves.
