Golden Al

Some seriously weak arguments for Golden being put forward here. Do we really want a guy fired mid-season after having secured multiple top 20 classes and having a mediocre schedule?

Thinking about Julie, was she set up to foul up the Eric Legrand thing? Why would an AD be calling EL to tell him he will be the speaker for the graduating class instead of the university president or some other academic person telling him?

not set up but its totally bogus blaming her...she is AD..that has NOTHING to do with Barchi deciding to have another speaker. Its Barchi's RESPONSIBILITY to call Eric LeGrand, asking Julie Hermann to do it? why? and actually wasn't it Barchi telling someone in his office to tell Julie and that he didn't directly tell Julie...You have to be kidding me...and who in the office is squealing this story to Carino. It was a bogus piling on to be blaming Julie Hermann for Eric Le Grand being disappointing..blame started and ended with Barchi who rarely takes responsibility for what happens around him

Nah just a long time Schiano-hater

I was always curious about this: If a Rutgers fan hated Schiano, he couldn't have liked Flood.....and certainly not liked Shea...or Graber...or Anderson. All of the last three with losing record here. So a fan of the team hasn't thought much of a head football coach of the team since at least back in the early Eighties, when we stopped playing Colgate, Princeton, and Quantico Marines ?
Oh yeah....and a guy who after the worst rout ever suffered by the U. gets shown the door and yet is gonna come back here and successfully recruit New Jersey's best high school players ? Still munching on those Colorado brownies, eh ?

Julie is gone and never said goodbye stop making her into a saint. Other than bac her biggest fan barchi knew she had to go

Some things to like about Golden is he has head coach experience, 46 is good age for an experienced HC, is known as a good recruiter, has worked the east coast his whole career, grew up and has family in NJ, improved Temple and IMO did not deserve to be fired from UM. UM was down when he came in and had sanctions to deal with.

Things I don't like are his previous dismissive attitude towards RU and his PSU connection. He had a meteoric rise and maybe the firing will bring some humility and develop some love for his home state school. Ash may be good but I never heard of him before, at least Golden has a name. Give him some money to get decent coordinators (besides his bud) and we could do much worse. I really don't want to keep the RU trend of hiring first time HC's.

Couldn't the same be true for Schiano? People could bring up the fact that he never won at RU and was a failure at Tampa Bay. Nothing against Schiano, but I feel like some people here have unrealistic expectations. He's probably the best realistic option we have.
I think, to a lesser extent, yes, the same thing could be said about Schiano. From what I can tell, people outside the RU universe do not have the same sort of fondness for him.

Golden...

I used to respect BAC's posts - he is now off his rocker.

NO ONE ELSE WANTS HIM!

Miami fans flew a freakin PLANE to get rid of him!

Others schools recruiters are PRAYING Golden gets the job.

On the bright side, if Golden came here, he could be Rutgers Al 2.0.

you misunderstand what I mean....one of the things that got Julie fired was lack of confidence in her being able to make a hire and secure funds. I find it ironic that after so much bluster, the candidates being settled on where the some of the same pool that was being floated when she was here all candidates that don't set the world on fire. I just am not buying into the new Rutgers money doesn't matter mantra that Barchi is trying to throw at us.

I like Golden because he is from the area, has generally been an above average recruiter, knows what it takes to compete at a Power 5 big time school. He had some things working against him at Miami where I believe the fits wasn't right. For Rutgers and where we stand in the pecking order of jobs this is the right choice, we will not get an experienced head coach better than him. We can go the crapshoot route with a very green Ash but that's very very risky and I worry about recruiting with him.

Golden isn't up for other jobs because they might not be the right fit, for Rutgers he is a good fit, stop worrying about what others are doing.
Gotcha.

I'm not sure why you replied to me? I never insinuated Julie wanted him here, I was responding to the guy who did and stated my opinion given that conditional fact.
Okay, then my mistake. Sorry.

So why isn't Syracuse taking a look at Al? Maryland? Virginia? Or is it a case of NJ and Al, perfect together?

And that is exactly why coaches get hired even after bad seasons.

You have to take records into consideration but it's all about the fit with your team. There aren't enough successful winning coaches for everyone to only hire a guy that's won at every level. And there's no guarantee that a guy who has won at a lower level can win in a P5 Conference. Sometimes you have to take a look at guys coming off a bad season and judge if you think they could work in your situation.

We would all love to have a pure winner, a no brainer here. Are those guys knocking on the door? Who is an experienced P5 winner that would come here? Mullen might be in that category, but there aren't many.
