Great effot

I am glad you posted. I was disappointed with the board last night when I got home crucifying Laviano for the spike. Yes it was dumb. The larger problem for us was burning TOs and managing the clock at the end of the game.

I said in the thread "Lack of Discipline" last week that RU's margin of error is ever so slight. Our error on clock management cost us the game. Norries Wilson is a stand up guy and took the fall, as he should have.
Positives:
1. Minimal penalties.
2. Offense and defense look organized and executed well.
3. WTF with the pass rush--where was that in the other games?
4. Gause was a monster.
5. Maybe our depth at defensive secondary is not so bad--Kiy Hester is a stud. Everyone did a pretty good job. Some of those catches by MSU wide receivers were insane.
6. Most important, the team never gave up.

Are their some things I wished we did more of…yes. I can second guess a dozen things on O and D.
Obviously going up four points would have been HUGE for us.

But, the effort was outstanding and we hit and competed at a completely different level than we have all year…we can win some games moving forward playing the way we did.

Had this team played anywhere near as well against PSU, we would have won that game. Definitely some critical mistakes that appear to be on the coaches hurt.
But, as mentioned, the catches being made by the MSU receiver were insane. I thought we rattled their QB very well and them not being able to rush the ball made them pretty one dimensional. We still need to be more aggressive in our pass coverage though.

Outside of #1 and clock management…all those other things were remedied by our physicality, it really is the game. We hit and played extremely physical, without that any scheme and game plan goes out the window.
Our team showed me a physical side that gives me great hope of competing with everyone left on our schedule, and beating three of them…minimum.

I am surprised zap . You know that winning is all that mAtters and we did not win . No participation trophy here .

The Spartans really took a beating last night. Don't know how many are out for Michigan, but MSU has a lot of holes to fill.

Props to the squad. They weathered the storm. Let's see what they do from here.

Our OL really stepped up.

Can't scream and say "i just want them to compete " and not come back and say..good game. They showed up last night and darn near won that game. Kudos to the crowd as well.

I just can't make a positive post like this without saying one thing that really bothers me.
Carroo is a monster 1st round pick, the second most electric player on the field whenever he's out there is Grant, you can't even tackle that kid one on one.

Grant is simply not on the field enough, end of story. Why in the hell would you not pressure a defense with Carroo and Grant on the filed at the same time more often?
He has to get the ball more.

Best team performance so far this year.
Hope it is something that we build on and get a victory at Indiana next weekend.

Agree they played well and had a lot of heart today. I bet Caroo coming back had a lot to do with it. They played hard disappointed yes should have been a W

We have a good situation at WR and running back--it is almost too confusing who should be getting the most reps at this point.

Agree that Grant needs to be out there more, but they got him a lot of touches last night.
Agudosi needs reps, but do you do so at the expense of sitting Carroo for those reps?
Patton is solid.
One thing that bothered me last night in the presser was what Coach Wilson said about Paul James--they said he did not get any reps because they had to go through the "rotation." Up until last night, James did not look like the James of old. But he showed a flash last night. Coaches need to learn to lay the hot hand and screw the rotation. This is not a knock on any of our other running backs. The same would apply if James was having a bad game and Hicks or Martin were having an explosive game.
These are good problems to have, if they are managed well.

I was impressed that the game plan was to go after the win. Attack, attack, attack and play aggressive on both sides of the ball. That needs to be our hallmark. We are not good enough right now to have a selective identity to win games or impress recruits. The coaches coached scared/conservative against PSU, WSU, and Kansas. Nothing good ever happens in the long term playing that way and the team never develops an identity. Better to lose and give it your best shot and let the players know you trust them. Win or lose our coaches just need to decide "we may lose but the other team will know they've been in a dogfight". MSU players were littering the field last night. You think they realized they were in a dogfight? They came in beat up and left even worse. I think they will get crushed by UM next week.

I never accept moral victories. I am making an exception this time.

Those kids and our coach did us proud. He's a kid lay off him. Made a mistake. He's not a four year starter like Nova who I always expected to blow up.

Fire Flood. It would have been 50-0 last night. We played to win last night. Flood, who the F knows what he does.

Thanks to the players and coach last night. Did us proud. We needed it after slaughter after slaughter last year.

It was the best performance of the season and an admirable effort. But you must build on it and not let it be a fluke. IU with all their injuries along with some others on the schedule are very beatable but performances like last night have to be repeated and improved upon.
