Seriously....

I was huge fan of Greg's as coach here and was the top guy on my list to replace flood

Having said all of that....right now, ohio state does not need Greg Schiano to get top five classes

Ohio state does not need Greg Schiano to recruit New Jersey quite well. How many players is he gojng to be the difference for ohio state over RU that OSU wasn't already a serious player for......1-2 a year?

And really, how long do you expect him to be there?

We need to take care of R business.

I'm a lot more worried about ohio state, Michigan, Michigan state and penn state as a program than an Individual assistant coach at one of the schools

Let ash get the right staff and bring the energy.

Holy "voice of reason" I've got buddies who aren't just on the ledge, they're holding onto the windowsill, with one foot off.

I just read their Scout board and almost everybody thinks it's a great hire but some believe he's there for maybe 1 year and out of 2 at most.

Even if they get a extra player or so, is it taking a player away from RU or Michigan, PSU, etc.

I honestly think that things are breaking right for Rutgers. I hope Coach Schiano does good at OSU. I like Schiano.

+1

People can hope Schiano does well AND want RU to do well. I think this is an excellent move for Greg to get back on the sidelines. And I think RU is in a great place with Ash. I've always believed the best move for both was to go in different directions. I'm just glad Schiano didn't get a head coaching job at Virginia or Maryland -- those would have been bad situations for Rutgers imo. Ohio State isn't. We will have to face him, but rarely will be going head to head for recruits. Even if Ash is an insanely good recruiter, Ohio State will likely be going after only 2-3 of the absolute best players in Jersey -- guys that would probably be out of our league for a while.

Is Schiano's hiring 100% completely and totally unrelated to the fact Chris Ash came to Rutgers? (other than the fact it created an opening)????

I don't think it was merely a coincidence...

you don't think it's a little jab at RU (while at the same time hiring a great replacement)?

Well said. Greg was my top choice also, but from a "competition" perspective, I'd far rather have him as an assistant at OSU than as a head coach at Cuse, UVA, Miami, etc., where he would've likely been a difference-maker in getting some top NJ kids we'd be after. The "delta" here is quite small, as OSU will get some top NJ players (whichever ones it wants, mostly) simply by virtue of being OSU with HCUM (first time I typed that and it made me chuckle like Beavis).

I'm far more curious to know what went down with Greg and RU, part deux. Did we truly go after him or was that just speculation based on Brown? And if we didn't go after him, why not? Also, if we did go after him, was he really not interested or was he interested, but overplayed his hand, holding out for more money, perhaps? I have a hard time believing he'd rather be DC at OSU than head coach at RU, unless he thinks HCUM isn't long for OSU.

Schiano got the best job he could and I hope he's successful at it. I'm not crazed over it; I've been a tOSU fan since I lived in Columbus as a kid.

But it clearly isn't ideal for us. Maybe a kid or two. If we are lucky, maybe zero, because if it is a kid or two, they will be ones we really wanted.

Ball is in Ash's court. I hope he knocks it out of the park (the sports mixed metaphor!).

You have to admit, after his stint with OSU is over he will have direct recruiting ties to NJ, Florida, and Ohio. 3 talent rich football states. I don't think many can say that.

You seem to be using logic, reason and facts... mods.. please ban!

The loser mentality that permeates the minds of some folks here is baffling and amusing at the same time. Multiple chicken little threads and drama queens on full display.
Thanks for starting this thread, Shack. Huge plus one. I was busy yesterday and when I finally got a look at this board, I couldn't believe the gloom and doom.

SO WHAT if Schiano is at OSU? It's not a big deal. Much better IMO than if he was head coach at UVA or Syracuse (although that would be worth a visit to their boards to see the agony of their fans over having Coach Shady).
