Hall gets a big recruit

The "basketball is king at seton hall" argument is pretty weak considering they were I believe second to last in big east attendance and that's with a 20 win season. The RAC would be rockin big time if/when we have a season like that. Future/upside is higher at Rutgers and Pikiell is a better coach.

The USSR has not existed for 25 years why do writers still think they need to add that former SSR tag to certain countries? This kid was born after Georgia became free so he literally has no attachment to the former. Just a pet peeve of mine.

Because most americas don't know that Georgia is also a country

Here's a heads up------you better hope you're wrong on that .

And I am not saying that because of my RU bias. I am just saying by looking at how SHU has gone in the past two years. Credit to their big east tourny win, but Willard was behind the ball with Delgado for the past two years. Just made him a focal point this year. He also lets his players do whatever they want, and it causes them to lose a lot. Tons of hero, playground ball with no discipline.

He wins, though. He is not the better coach.
The better coach usually has the better players which comes from recruiting.Ultimately, competition between teams tells who is the better coach.Winning is most important in evaluating coaches because unsuccessful ones get fired.

Pikiells ability to develop and retain talent has been proven, and I see no reason for that not to continue moving forward. .

You mean other than the 3 guys from his roster that he had to recruit to stay here a year ago who now have elected to transfer.

I dislike SHU as much as anyone- surprising since I spent 4 years on the campus while at the Prep, but I have my reasons. However when it comes to basketball they have been better than us since about 1985. I am never surprised when a quality player commits to SHU.

1 - Nigel was never leaving before this year. He would have then sat out 2 straight seasons. That was never a possibility. Laurent was the only "win" and he clearly didn't fit the system. Also, look around the college basketball landscape. Not many teams DONT have three open roster spots right now.

I am not questioning that SHU is better at basketball. If you read my quote, I state that there is no possible argument to be made that RU is better than SHU in 2017. Nor would I ever be surprised for a quality recruit to commit there. All I was stating, is that I'm more optimistic in Pikiell + Staff to out coach and hopefully at least match the recruiting chops of SHU for 2018 & beyond. Especially when SHU is losing their top 5 scorers after next year.

I'm with Lou on this - until we have a winning season then I may state that we have more upside.

Until the Big East formation RU was the top dog in the northeast - even ahead of Syracuse. SHU has eaten our lunch since taking the spot in the Big East that we turned down.

The second part of my response was not really directed at you - others in this thread have put down SHU for totally invalid reasons.
But the first part was directed at you - I love Pike as our coach but you cannot say that he can retain and develop talent better that Willard as he has not been here long enough to prove it. I am concerned with losing Johnson when the odds of us picking up a high quality younger player is slim at this point. Our best bet is a short term solution , i.e. graduate transfer.

I have no SHU bias. Most of the players are from brooklyn, and I am also from there. I support those kids. Basketball is a fun game, no matter what the team.

If you go Pikiell Kevin willards roster in 2017, it is not 21-12. Probably more like 26-7.

If you give Willard Pikiells roster in 2017, it is not 15-18. Probably more like 9-24.

Willard has shown to be a better recruiter. Plays very close to illegal, but is it still legal. Whiteheads coach, etc.

Willard always lets his players do whatever they want. Ball movement is sometimes so bad for the amount of kids that can score on that team. He just doesn't get it through to his players that if they pass, they are a sweet 16 team every year for the past four years. Also, defensively, not there.

I have very little bias. The amount of selfish basketball Kevin Willards team plays with given the much better all around talent is terrible to me.

You're all in on a guy who took 8 years to get to the tourney in a league that's a stretch to call mid-major. Let's see how his sophomore year works out. His challenge will be getting B1G level talent to play his way. It may be harder than you think. Who knew such talent was hiding at a SUNY campus.

Wow, and you even know what the coaches records would be. Very impressive. You have got to be kidding

Ok, how did Proff Ed get 7 Likes out of only 2000 posts ?

Did his relatives stuff the ballot box ?

Surprised that we let him post here.

Rutgers sports has done nothing except drain the taxpayers money. Oh wait I forgot, they had Snooki as a commencement speaker. The little red schoolhouse will be basement dwellers for years in the BIG

Great SHU education, literally everything you said is wrong.

SHU doesn't even have a football team. You wish you could get 50,000 people at a sporting event. All you have is basketball and your great class of Whitehead, Carrington, Rodriguez and Delgado was obtained by hiring Tiny Morton and Antigua. Talk about having to stoop so low. Even your own fans mention this all the time. What will your team be like after next season when their time is up? Will you hire the coaches of other good recruits?

It will still be good enough to beat the little red schoolhouse and I'd rather have no football team than a pathetic one

Saying you are better than RU isn't much. BTW, your heralded class has as many NCAA wins as RU. ZERO

Jesus this is so stupid...

SHU stopped being relevant to me when we left the Big East. This so called rivalry needs to go the way of Princeton and get lost.

As Rutgers basketball fans, a little humility is a good trait until Pikiell turns it around for good. Till then, not much point in stirring this particular pot for another 7 months or so

I know that reality can be tough to take Jonnyboy

Let's break it down.

1. Rutgers sports doesn't take taxpayer money because Rutgers gets very little in taxpayer funding.
2. Rutgers didn't have Snooki as a commencement speaker. The student programming council brought her in for a normal event, and immediately pissed off the entire school and alumni community who universally hate her.
3. "Little red schoolhouse?" Rutgers is a better than Seton Hall on every conceivable academic metric except for the law school. Rutgers is a world class university. Seton Hall is a tiny little commuter school that is on no one's radar outside of NJ.
4. Basement dwellers? Football did fine until Flood ruined it, it'll be back soon. The Big Ten is a bad football conference. Basketball will be harder, but we'll be in a better spot than you soon enough.

Theaterman, You have 13 postings total and 5 are on this thread. Why don't you just go over to the SHU site. You are only trying to stir up trouble.

RU is a fine school. World class? Sorry.

No matter how much you or I like what pikiell is doing, seton hall is about 4 years further along in program rebuilding than RU is. Willard is not perfect, but he is building a solid resume that should help build deeper rosters. Yeah they hired some guys to land whitehead and Delgado, so what? That's how this thing works. RU fans would sign up for that in a minute if the right opportunity popped up. While shu will be senior heavy this year, guys like Powell, cale and the new guy were more highly touted than anyone pikiell has brought in thus far. Just sit back and enjoy the fact that both programs are trending up for the first time in what seems like forever.
