Harrison Hand commits to Baylor

While not the only factor - Likely most pivotal factor:

On December 6, 2016, Matt Rhule was named the head football coach at Baylor University ... virtually erasing Temple from Hand's consideration and boosting Baylor to the top.

One interesting aspect to ponder - there seemed to be strong desires expressed in the Hand camp to remain closer to home & family ... hope all goes well for the young man athletically, socially, academically - because it can be excruciatingly difficult if the going gets tough & homesickness rears its head & the voice of second guessing and doubt starts to chatter - and you are way over a 1,000 miles from home.... especially if there were/are some misgivings about being so far away to begin with.

Damn, I thought him, Bell, and Bolds would close out the class with 3 4*.... guess it's down to bolds

Matt Rhule is a dynamic, charismatic, very successful Head coach. Baylor is fortunate to have signed him. He'll have more good commits besides Hand in the next few weeks. Rhule will have an even bigger job (SEC / NFL ?) in 3 or 4 years.

Ash will get his share of 4 and high 3 stars. He works very hard and is committed to succeeding. Some kids just want to get out of Dodge.

Where are Hand and Bolds rated as 4*? Not trying to be difficult, I just never saw them rated as 4* on any service. Maybe I missed something. Hand is a high 3* on most services. Bolds stock has been dropping following this past season.

Never mind. I found it on NJ Varsity rankings from Rivals. He is a 4 star on there. On the regular Rivals rankings from the spring he is a 3*.

How do you committ to a school you've never visited and only offered you last week?

I get Rhule is the coach and the Temple connection but odd he's never stepped foot on campus.

Baylor is in Waco. It is a horrible area. Don't want to hear how New Brunswick is an undesirable area.

We're the only state where it's cool to get out of. Everywhere else you stay home and have pride in doing so.

That needs to change before we ever go anywhere.
It's not just football. The culture needs to change in all aspects.

all the pieces were there for Rhule to make the most persuasive pitch imaginable - Rhule is selling upside potential and in the Baylor context, Rhule, himself has no blemishes - he can say - "I'm going into a magnificent situation - a heralded institution with a grand history -yes, there is some rebuilding to be done - but the upside is incredible - we are going to rapidly make our way to glory - we will be in huge bowl games - and I need a dynamo like you in my first class to lead the way" .... ....blah,blah,blah (and all that "we are going to conquer the world" stuff that enables people who jump to a position heading up a turn-around of a company to entice eager young colleagues to come with them ... and ignore the mountain of crap that is the reason that a turn around is needed)
- and since he had an established rapport, and the euphoria of the new opportunity is strong - and the timeline is compacted - there is little room room for deliberative critical assessment the 'cons' of this move.

I guess he committed to just the coach. That's not really a wise decision on the young man's part. At least visit the place 1st. He might as well be playing football on the moon for four years with that thought process. And I heard Waco isn't too far off from the landscape of the moon just has more gravity.

It's most likely we fill out the rest of our class with 2 stars or low level 3 stars. Small chance we get Lovett, and I don't see any 4 stars coming unless something happens like the Marques Ford situation of two years ago, which didn't end up favorably in the end.

This BS of NJ Recruits leaving the state needs to stop.
While getting 2 of the Top 10 NJ recruits is nice ( and an Improvement) it still is long way away from where we need to be. To be anywhere near competitive in the B1G we need more Top NJ recruits to stay home.
Heck this year's 2017 Recruiting Classes in Indiana, Maryland, Wisconsin, Ohio , etc. each have at least 5 of their Top 10 Recruits staying home and playing in their state University and playing in the B1G.

So that would put our class in the mid thirties I'd guess once other schools fill out their classes? Not bad but disappointing after the summer we had, although not surprising after the season

Because most kids commit to a coach(s) and not a school.

Would not count on that. Gotta wonder what type of fence we are using around the garden.

CNN posted an article that was titled "NJ most left state in the country". So it's not just a football thing it's an entires state culturally likelihood - in comparison to other states.
