Now Harvard Alums are complaining about the Aurich hire process. Some self appointed Harvard Alum douche was quoted as saying:

“It smells of some kind of sham process,” said Joe Mattson, who played for the Crimson in the 1990s. “There is no other explanation for hiring an unsuccessful tight end coach from a really crappy program.”

To be fair, it sounds like it was a pretty screwed up search process. If RU did this the fans would be screaming too.

“Instead of hiring a search firm to identify potential candidates, McDermott assembled a trio of former Crimson players to help with the interview process: Andrew Berry, general manager of the Cleveland Browns; Eion Hu, now a partner at private equity firm TJC; and Ryan Fitzpatrick, the journeyman NFL quarterback turned Amazon Prime Video pundit”

Wonder what the naysayers would have thought if the hire was a HC that went 17-31-1 in 5 years at his last stop.( though was successful( 15-8 in 2 years) at a lower program before .
That hire turned out great , 200-89 as the Crimson HC from 1994 to 2023.
Harvard might be looking for and hiring HCs that they feel will be successful staying
there instead of using the success they have at Harvard as a steppingstone for better programs
But going from position coach to a HC anywhere might be considered a questionable move by the program that did that
Aurich does have Ivy league experience from his playing days (2022-2025) and as a coach
In 2011 he was the Princeton RB coach left then returned in 2013 till he left for Rutgers in 2020.
His last year (2019) at Princeton he was the assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and OL Coach.
He also was Princeton's Special teams /TE coach for 3 years (2013-2015)
Andrew might not be a bad hire for an Ive League program, for a Group 5 maybe a not so good one and definitely not the best choice for a P-4

It’s funny how they think a hire who played and coached within a program that perennially wins the Ivy title for some time and comes from a BIG program that is on the up thinks this a bad hire.

Ryan Fitzpatrick was on the interview team. Hope Aurich builds a winner there and then returns someday as the RU OC.

Agreed. At least 2/3 of them are more qualified than anyone to help make this decision
For a place like Harvard, a top flight search firm could be hired with change found in between couch cushions. And it is what they should have done. Search firms know who is looking and who is not and can contact people to feel out their inclination to make a move, or even to convince them that they should when maybe they weren't thinking about it. Search firms, especially for a decison like this, don't make the final call. They simply do the grunt work and generate options.

I wish Aurich all the best (except against Princeton) and wouldn't be surprised if he were successful.

Harvard messed this process up.

I think Harvard's administration didn't feel football was worth bring in a search firm and decided a few knowledgeable people would be good enough.
But agree they should have brought in a search firm , but had that firm work with the people they chose to find a HC before making recommendations

The guy you quoted is a former FB with not one career football statistic. He's not very influential to say the least when it comes to Harvard athletics.

They are all butthurt because the new AD worked at Princeton and hired someone that also worked at Princeton. Nothing will come of their salty tears other than a lot of internet trolling.

People underestimate the value of sports to Ivy League alumni. Ivy alums don't brag about sports to folks in general; they brag to alums of other Ivy League schools in board rooms during hostile takeovers.

I think the Harvard AD thinks she's the smartest person in the room and doesn't need a search firm. After all, her previous AD job was at that athletic powerhouse, The University of Chicago (my doctoral alma mater). The cost of a search firm would have been absolutely negligble to Harvard. Dumb move.

The previous guy had coached there for 30 years and had a 200-89 record there. The HC position is endowed (as is Amaker, and hell, even the AD's job is endowed). Harvard went 8-2 this year and tied for the Ivy championship, so Aurich is walking into a good situation. I wish him the best, except against Princeton.

Surprised they gave the job to Aurich. Would not be surprised if he gets railroaded out of the job for someone who checks the right boxes.

Well he's from inside the Ivy tribe. Played for Princeton and coached there 6 years - including assistant head coach and OC. Schiano took him to Tampa Bay. Ryan Fitzpatrick and his 48 Wonderlic consulted with Harvard. Sounds like he was liked a long time and was going to be a HC somewhere. People who wanted Chip Kelly are dreaming. Fitzgerald was booted from NW after being smeared by controversy. Why would Harvard flirt with that sort of vibe?

Before Harvard Tim Murphy was 17-31-1 at Cincy.
Wonder how he would do "at a really crappy program".

I guess they must be worried about having a successful football team.

Harvard alums have a lot of more important things to be concerned about than how Aurich was hired.

Took over a Cincy team with five consecutive losing seasons and brought them around to 8-3 before he left for Harvard. And had done a good job at Maine before then. He was a good bet. Aurich is a gamble. But hope he does well.

All Aurich needs to do is plagiarize another teams play book and he would be welcomed with open arms.

I don't think this is too surprising. He's not a Harvard guy. He's a Princeton guy. Think about us with the PSU guy who's responsible for that damn stadium whistle? And the same criticism I had about the Fran hire is valid here - AA has never been a head coach. That's a risk at any level. That said hope he wins (and wins early) and this quiets down.
