Is there a point in which you think a change SHOULD be made? My God, #1 team in the country replaced the guy who won the friggin' National Championship last year because he wasn't on his game, yet RU can't try to get a spark down 21-0 in a game?
Laviano looked HORRIBLE when throwing passes over 7 yards. You can't win many games with that kind of passing attack.
Anyone defending his play tonight is crazy imo. He overthrew a 6 foot 6 guy!
People saw Rettig competently move the offense - and do so with out the star receiver - in the first half of the first game - people saw a performance that was universally viewed as one that should in no way take him out of consideration for the starting position.
Now that Laviano has been struggling to reach the end zone, it would be only reasonable to determine if Rettig's abilities would produce a different outcome.
You do know that Meyer benched Cardale Jones? The QB that won the National Championship? For poor performance.
28-3 and Rettig can't get one series and/or snap , what a freaking joke.
I defended the decision to start Laviano but it is pretty clear he doesn't see the field well and doesn't see the receivers well either. Add to that the lack of confidence in his own arm you get the results we saw tonight.
He had time in the first half and open WRs but didn't take advantage of them. If your measure of a QB is the completion % on a bunch of throws that the defense is allowing him to throw within ten yards then he had a wonderful game.
The problem with that is the D has no respect for even an attempt long and even if attempted they believe they can make a play on it because the velocity is not there. So what you get are 9 men within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage and a lot of pressure in the second half and no running lanes the entire game.
