B-ball recruiting rankings aren't the be-all & end-all.
Coaching & scheme are very important in this sport.
This.
Looking at the teams in the kenpom Top 30 last year (and recruiting rankings from 247), and their recruiting from 2013-16:
#30 Kansas State's best class was ranked 51st in 2013 (avg was 64th)
#29 TCU's best class was ranked 38th in 2013 (avg was 67th)
#25 Butler's best class was ranked 45th in 2016 (avg was 65th)
#21 Wisconsin's best class was ranked 39th in 2013 (avg was 76th)
#19 Purdue's best class was ranked 27th in 2013 (avg was 48th)
#17 Iowa State's best class was ranked 37th in 2013 (avg was 66th)
#2 Villanova's best class was ranked 30th in 2015 (avg was 38th)
While we're always searching for that superstar player or that Top 25 class, with the right mix of players with strong coaching, we can find success even less heralded classes.
