With all the sentiment and opinions that have been posted on this board, If Hobbs listens to any of it, we have bigger issues than hiring the next football coach. The best thing that I have seen from Hobbs so far is that he is enlisting the assistance from an outside firm to vet the candidates. I am assuming that their marching orders are to find the candidate that will be the best short- and/or long-term solution for Rutgers, considering its fragile state. A smart man is not the one that knows everything, it is the one that knows his own limitations. I trust this process will harvest the best candidate.

We can continue to make all of the anti-Golden, anti-Schiano, anti-Vince Lombardi statements we want. It is purely for the entertainment of the people on this board, all of which have limited capability on knowing what is in Rutgers best interest, both financially, organizationally and for the future.

My suggestion is that we rally around the football team at this point and keep in mind how important it is not only to recruit the best football players (more locally for sure), but to make them even better people as they go through their Rutgers experience. While we all would like championships, I, for one, would like to just see the team competitive with the likes of Ohio State and Michigan State, and hope to one day be the true asset of the B1G that they would love for us to be.

The last part is the key. All of these hires are of the same level. None is really more likely that the others to win or lose. Its not like Flood -where you just were left scratching your head. SO get behind the guy who ends up being hired - dont get so hung up on what camp you were in before the hire.

Good points, but I'm more interested in knowing your story; you've been a member for 11 years, but you just started posting in the last week. Just curious... And I hope you stay active on the board.

I remember 95% of Yankees fans bashing the hiring of Joe Torre

Torre and Bill Belichick are two perfect examples of how a guy that didn't fare too well (Torre had a couple of very good seasons with the Braves and I think Belichick made the playoffs once or twice with Cleveland) can become outstanding hires in the right situation.

I doubt many fans of either teams could have foreseen the dynasties that were coming under those coaches. Sometimes a perfect fit is better than a great win/loss record.

Yes - I can also remember the somewhat tepid response a guy named Bill Parcells got when he was elevated to replace Ray Perkins who left the NY Giants to become HC at Alabama .
... a few might say it kinda turned out OK

Posted many times on the old site, but the posting numbers did not come over when the platform changed. Season ticket holder for 18 years. Have seen coaches come and go. I have my own opinions on who the search should focus on, but have determined that it is useless and frustrating to post that very opinion. Ultimately, I know that whatever decision is made, I will continue to support the program. But, as in business, I always like looking forward.

Very nice

The worst thing he could do is to read this message board for advise.

Unless he wants to know when London Broil goes on sale.

++++ yes - this all has some strong similarities to major business transitions - one day a memo from corporate is circulated saying that "Goldman Sachs has been retained to evaluate strategic options for your division" - or that your CEO & Sr. VP of Sales & Marketing "have chosen to pursue new opportunities" .... then craziness prevails for several months ...... speculation becomes the number one pastime... but speculation has ZERO impact on the outcome.
