Not a great showing in the bowls by the B1G.

Suggested responses:
1. If Rutgers was in a bowl it would have been different!

Our teams play for the playoffs anything less isn't worth our time so our teams become disinterested. This is the exact excuse the SEC and the talking heads from Espin used when any of their teams lost bowl games. As for ACC folks what do you know about football your a basketball conference. Having two good teams a year and 12 cream puffs doesn't make you a football conference.

The ACC has Clemson and Florida State. The rest aren't particularly great. Virginia Tech was favored and ranked and had to have an epic comeback to win over Arkansas, which was 3-5 in SEC play. Louisville's high-octane offense was completely shut down by LSU. There's nothing much else after that.

No, not a great showing, and those wins referenced above seem like a long, long time ago. But it doesn't really matter. It's no more rational than using a conference's NCAA Tournament record to decide how good it is in basketball. It's all about matchups there, and much of the story in football is about matchups -- and motivation. The Big Ten is the most significant conference in America, and we're in it. Nothing else need be said.

Still a great conference. Ohio State lost a lot of talent and were young this year. They recruit well and will be back. They ran into a buzz saw in Clemson. Michigan lost a close one, they will be back. Penn State gave a great showing, they are back. Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Iowa are perennially good. Most of it comes down to how you match up with other teams and good QB play. Also might add speed kills. Doesn't matter how big and bad you are if you're slow. Clemson and Alabama are big and fast.

Was at the Devils game tonight with a Bruins/Syracuse fan who detests PSU and was ecstatic after USC pulled it out. His unbridled glee over PSU's loss eventually turned into condemnation of the B1G. I used the "best conference for the entirety of the season" argument.

B1G is only P5 conference with a losing record

Atlantic Coast Conference Record:
8-3
Big Ten Conference Record: 3-7
Big 12 Conference Record:
3-2
Pac-12 Conference Record: 3-3
Southeastern Conference Record: 6-5
Even more reason. They'll always be second class, get worse bowls, have better records and make less money. Too bad, so sad.

just suck it up and accept it, sometimes some conferences are better. Tip your hat to the ACC this year, I know the unobjective fans like to bash it here but its did its job this year and has a team in the championship game and two schools from there beat up on our two best programs

Yeah, my posts was supposed to be tongue in cheek. Kind of hard to denigrate the ACC. They had some good wins in their bowls.

With OSU and PSU/UM in playoffs and BCS, respectively, that meant teams moved up in bowl order and played teams that finished with better records in their leagues and/or ranked higher. Minnesota beat WSU and a 6-6 Indiana team hung with ranked Utah in Santa Clara. Close losses by UM and PSU.

You will have the teams such as Maryland and Iowa not playing well in bowls.

If it's ACC or P12 folks, just thank them for helping to take our divisional opponents down a peg (ACC teams beat OSU, Michigan, Maryland... P12 teams beat PA St, Indiana). I'm past the point of caring about conference comparisons, because we no longer are in a league that needs continual validation like the Big East (or ACC).

I shut them right up by letting them know that we had NOTHING to do with the bowl record!!!!

Love how when the SEC is awful in bowl games it doesn't count but when the B1G has a down year in the bowl season its a big deal.

You can't blame Rutgers for any bowl loses and besides that Rutgers really made the rest of the Big Ten look good last season.

So there's that.

Get some new friends. Assuming we're all grown folks, grown folks shouldn't have any interest in playing "my conference is better than your conference".

The B10 has shown itself just fine, a few very close losses. Psu goes on road and barely loses to usc. Mich lost by 2 indy lost by 2, twerps lost by 6......., its about matchups..... osu was a shocker to me. Wisc beat an unbeaten team for what thats worth. Minn had a nice win.

I consider the bowls a little bit of a "new" season separate from the regular season. It's like I was mentioning in that thread about the 2 hottest teams being left out of the playoff. Hot streaks and performances in the regular season can be lost/reset when you have weeks to month long layoffs before your next game. It's not like MBB or even the NFL where you pretty much go from the regular season into the tournaments/playoffs.

So the B10 had a good regular season OOC but a bad bowl season, simple.

Conference Supremacy in the game of football is nothing but a hoax.... there aren't enough games to measure a conference is true strength. You can probably measure a decade but that's about it. The Big Ten however has been impressive.

part of the problem with bowls is the teams are off for 4 to 5 weeks and get a little rusty. For Michigan and Ohio St their last game was about 5 weeks before their New years bowl games. The routines for the players are changed in bowl season.

Simple:

We had 4 teams in playoff/NY6 games. All 4 EARNED those spots, however, there was 1 bad matchup due to a youthful OSU side that, bottom line, will be back there next year. PSU and Michigan lost by 3 and 1 points, respectively, in great games. Wicy won theirs. Anyway, beacause of that, the rest of our teams all moved up 1-2 slots in the picking order, hence, there weren't a lot of favorable matchups. The B1G was favored in ONLY 1 of its 1st 6 bowl games this year.

Everyone - literally - shuts up at that point.
