How good is Junior QB Micah Ford from Toms River North?

Toms River ‘ s influx of people has been noted now for many years. Didn’t former RU player QB /DB Danny Harris come from TRN years ago. Take as an example Woodbridge Township , N J combining it’s 3 high schools in all sports …a super 5 k student body …I have to believe they would be a consistent top 10 in almost every sport. Woodbridge like Toms River is a diversified community with many talented players. Toms River has how many high schools today ? Is it 3 -The tax payers have invested in the junior leagues for quite some time.
4, TRN, TRE, TRS, and a Catholic School (mon don)

When I think of Tom's River, I think baseball. Todd Frazier and Al Leiter are the biggest names that come to mind.
lot of great players came out prior to those guys and filled the minor ranks just those are most notable. TR is most certainly a baseball area, has been for since I was there under Coach Frank. Half my team went d1 or minors. What you get now is people moving to specific areas for particular high schools and we didn't have that when I was there. Ken Frank is #1 and Bill Frank #4 for most wins in NJ HS history with North doing well over the past 30yrs as well.

Frazier is a great guy, fun to be around. His brother is far more serious, and his nephew looks to be a good one as well though young.

Tomorrow is the Battle of Bay Ave where East plays North in the annual Thanksgiving game. Go Raiders!

Posts like this make me think of our own Alamo Al... (RIP, I think). Knew a lot about TRN back in the day.

Go Raiders!

Personally, I'd rather have the linemen from the team as they are legit!
My opinion is that if you have a college level offensive lineman or more on a high school team you most likely have a running back or running QB with gaudy numbers even if they are not college level talents

Tremendous potential based upon population and diverse group of young. Many from families with backgrounds in athletics. The only recent past negative issue which was big news was the Ritacco school misappropriations scandal. Remember playing against the Ritacco boys who were Nutley legends back in the 60’s.

TRE has gone to the $hits! Last fall, my youngest played his football game against TR at TRE which was an amazing feeling watching your son on the same field as a father who had a great hs career there. emotional moment for a dad watching him play and brought back many memories

The ref was the TRE baseball coach so naturally we talked, exchanged numbers, etc etc.. TRE facilities (not football) have just sunk and there is a lot of budget politics with new groups moving in etc.. TR going downhill imho, most of my family has moved away over the past several years. I think part is demographic shift, less money as jobs have and commutes to the city have changed and more.

Unfortunately some kids who are from the East area are choosing to go to North which has created some obvious tension.

North Roster has kids that would be starting at East & are currently in the 2 deep waiting on their turn.

Let’s see what happens going forward as the majority of North starters are coming back which could create some movement..

When you see it breaking up.. Dover Township that is.. into separate municipalities as communities try to control some of the issues and protect themselves... that would be the final nail, imo.

Hmm.. have to wonder WHY the exodus (East to North) began in the first place. East was teh newer school.. though that Ritacco Center.. or whatever it is called now.. might have grabbed some limelight from South (ancient) and East.

Hmmmm.. perhaps the issue, overall for the town, is that it stopped growing. Budgets for growing entities are very different. New tax revenues not having to support old structure or the retired employees for a town that size. But now... there is no TRHSW.. and the people hired around the late 70s are retired for awhile. Pensions must be a bitch when you have to maintain all those roads and cop cars and school busses and so on for a very large (in sq miles) town.

This being Thanksgiving.. I am thankful I was there while it was growing.

Happy Turkey Day, All!

Jackson Toms River and Brick are seeing demographic change’s which will impact their athletic programs.

I doubt we are going to see a great Orthodox QB

I live in Southern Regional area. And I know there has been a large influx of families moving from Toms River to the area. Southern Regional should see a big up tick in talent over the next few years.

This is very accurate and something to watch going forward

Sorry, I meant FOOTBALL prospects.
More specifically, those who were recruited by top level college programs and perhaps played at that level

Bryce Watts (VaTech)..

Currently:
Ja’elyne Matthews sophomore with pretty much every offer known to mankind, Jr (WR) Tareq Council who unfortunately was suspended for the championship game after a fight late in the 4th quarter, Jr Jeremiah Pruitt the best pure athlete on the team, Jr (RB) Josh Moore lil undersized but may have a chance at the next level.

So....one ?

Loads of ritaccos from Nutley/Belleville not all related. Ray was top fb player for Nutley back in the 60s.

Actually, I grew up in central New Jersey....high school in South River...not too far from Toms River.
Lived in most parts of NJ over the years.... north Jersey for the last 30 or so. I don't remember Toms River ever being a particularly good spot for football recruiting.

I knew and played against both Ray and Mike Ritacco from Nutley in the 60’s. Good ball players solid sports programs . They had some decent other players back then mid to late 60’s John Lucas, Ken Inglis and Jeff Bouton the nephew of Yankee pitcher Jim Bouton. For the life of me they had a good first baseman Coppola who was also very good FB player. . Think he may have made Newark Evening News 1st team All State maybe back in 66-67 ?

Don Klos?

Ok , this is my home school and I've seen every game for several years. Micah is in my son's grade and I have been able to see him play football and basketball many, many times.

First of all, this TRN team is ridiculously big and talented. They may be the best Shore area team in history. Every opponent, outside of the first game, was clearly and totally overmatched on a physical basis. So, statistics are completely irrelevant.

Many of the top players on TRN are D1 players (maybe 10 total) but lower level D1/Ivy. Schools like Temple, UConn, Monmouth, UPenn, Cornell etc are around the building.

Micah is a D1 player. He will have multiple P5 offers. For a very long time, he was thought to be a lock for WVU. Recently, Rutgers has been involved. He is likely to be a running back but his throwing is improving. It is conceivable that he would be a QB in college, but he needs further development. Tough, physical, talented - but not a blazer. Strong safety might be the spot.

The OT mentioned above (Jalen Mathews) is a legit top tier lineman. Rutgers was on him first , when he was a freshman. Now, literally everyone wants this kid. He loves RU, but it will be tough to keep him over the high level competition.

Intriguing is the monstrous junior tackle Justin Kaye. Needs work across the board, but he is an absolute giant. Family loves Rutgers and kid would commit on the spot.

Interestingly, TRN plays in the finals at RU next Sunday. Josh Kaye (the older, much smaller) brother of Justin is thought to be a PWO candidate. If he's offered, he will accept and RU could wrap up both with a dual offer following the game.

The WR Tareeq Council is thought to be a Temple silent commit, but could play his way into a better spot. Tough to say how good he is, again, since the team is so dominant, especially running the ball.

There are other very good players who may ultimately be worthy of a high D1 spot, but those mentioned above are the players that are getting the most attention.

While the TRN line is already dominant x 100, it should also be noted that Jake Guarnera also lived in TRN and played on the Pop Warner teams growing up. His dad is RU football alum James Guarnera who had a taste of NFL time following his time on the banks as a DL. The family moved to Florida. While Jake still loves Rutgers, he is an absolute top shelf recruit who recently was hosted by Tennessee and posted pictures of him with Peyton Manning in the locker room. Before that Michigan with pictures of him and Juwan Howard. Thats tough to beat... He will literally be able to pick his team. If he was still at TRN, it would be completely unfair to the opposition (even worse than it is now).

Shore players dont generally have a lot of success at the high D1 level, but I am hoping that this group reverses the trend. Hopefully at Rutgers.
Great post..Shore Conference does ok..Best Offensive lineman in NFL currently is a Shore Conference player

Let’s go - good point. My hometown bias causes me to think Ocean county , but Monmouth is certainly “shore” and has turned out some impressive talent

Yes , Josh Moore is a great player and great kid. He reminds me of Joe Martinek. He will make some college team very happy , but probably at a level below Rutgers.

I would say the Shore holds its own in regards to producing talent. Red Bank Catholic seems to always have a few D1 players. Guys like Gesicki, Ja'Sir Taylor, Nelson, and Kenny Pickett have excelled. Shoutout Knowshon Moreno, one of the GOAT high school players.

Bumping with a smile !!

TRN to Rutgers - doesnt get any sweeter for me

Ivy League is his target, work with the mom..
