Would 16 wins get us into the NIT? Or do we need more like 17-18...?

At this point as long as they finish above .500 I would think they would get in.

People seem confident 20 wins means NCAA, but i am not so sure. Id hope it would guarantee NIT, but curious what the minimum would be. Do the "last four out" always get into the NIT?

Every team that makes the NCAAs has close games they pull out like this one during the season ...welcome to the club!!!!!

I remember hearing last year that the last four out are automatically the four top seeds in the NIT

That would kind of make sense, but i admit i haven't paid much attention to the NIT in the past.

Will keep my fingers crossed for NCAAs but think an NIT birth would still be fun (even if that makes me a loser).

I'd prefer the NCAA, but seeing RU's run through the NIT in 2004 was a blast. Tickets were plentiful /cheap , the games were fun, and it was awesome being able to see all of the games without having to travel or miss work...

Because today was a wake up call
You're free to think that. My thought is that we're definitely not a top 25 team. I honestly hope we lose the ranking because it may be making our guys play soft.

20 wins mean 11-9 in conference. Rutgers achieves that, they are in.

For those unfamiliar with the the OP, he is being facetious.

From what I can discern from previous posts over the years, that seems to be his "thing".

You gotta admit, it's pretty funny. NIT. Get it? It's a joke.

College BB scheduling is a joke. P5 schools should play more other P5 schools during the season. One game against an Acc and Big East school while playing all these league games is not an indication of your status nationally. How about one each from the other major conferences?

This. As much as the strength of the B1G this year is talked about, any B1G team getting 20 wins with a .500 or better conference record is probably a lock.

I'll admit my posts in the game thread were intentionally over the top, but this thread was genuine curiousity (about when we would have locked down the NIT).

So far i think it seems like the answer is somewhere between 18-19.

So you started this thread at the height of our implosion, and are now saying it wasn't based on emotion and/or disgust, but was purely a dispassionate, information-seeking thread? C'mon man.

Hopefully we will get in invited to a November-December tournament in which we are guaranteed three games. And I expect we'll get a Gavitt Games invite next year. Add the ACC game and Seton Hall, and we've got a solid six game OOC. Add five bought RAC games and away we go!
