I don't question the possibility that underhanded shooting can help us, but can you imagine the stories of the change in the middle of the season? "Rutgers FT shooting so bad they switch to underhanded free throws."
I'd be kind of embarrassed and it might hurt my confidence even more if I was struggling. If it was the start of a season, I don't think it'd be that big of a deal, but this late into the season, I think it'd be best just finishing it out the way it is, even if it was a real consideration.
I think a big part of it has got to be mental and Coach Pikiell has alluded to it. Assuming he is not BS'ing us and certain players are making more shots in practice than in games, we just gotta control our nerves. I feel like you can kind of see it in their faces when they are shooting it. Imagine knowing the FT stats, the criticisms, and knowing this has cost you games and trying to block that out when you are at the line. They just gotta keep practicing working under pressure and fatigue and hopefully build it into their muscle memory somehow, IMO.
