Apparently, the NJ HS State Championship games will no longer be played at the RAC and will be played in Toms River. Sounds as though, Rutgers' asking price was too rich for the NJSIAA. Don't know if anyone cares, but this is sad. It was nice to be able to get the top players in NJ on campus and playing on our home court. But, I guess it didn't really get them to stay home to play their college ball.

Maybe there is a new NCAA rule like in FB.

Didn't the HS State playoff FB games get moved out of Rutgers Stadium because of something like that?

state senators now seem to be blaming RU for the move-huh????

Wait until there is a State of the Art Practice Facility on campus next to the RAC then try to get the tourney back.

Not related to basketball but DCI/drum corps rente the football stadium for a contest last year...it was expensive and RU security were total dicks. It became obvious RU doesnt want certain outside events.

Free parking in Toms River and higher costs at Rutgers for holding the event were the reasons for the move.

Exactly-----better facility for them IMO .

Unless you get a marquee matchup like St Pat's vs St A's which we had awhile back 4,000 is plenty of seats to handle it.. Much more like a HS gym which I think leads to better games.

Rutgers, NJSIAA to discuss state hoop finals’ future

This Assemblyman Burzichelli is a real typical Trenton troll. He wants to tell people what to do but not pony up the dough or take responsiblity.

He passes a law regulating how much the High School Sports association can charge for events. (This is what the legislature spends its time on?) And no I'm not going to defend NJSIAA and it's spending. But when the group moves to a lower cost (though admittedly less desirable) venue he squawks.

Now here is the part that frosts my corn flakes. He wants the Rutgers Athletic Department to subsidize the thing.

"“The answer is not raising ticket prices,” Burzichelli said last week, noting that as Rutgers makes its “way into a premier athletic conference” it needs to “figure out a way to host these games.”
That is politician speak for Rutgers gotta pay for this, presumably out of B1G revenues.

If as an organization we decide the value of hosting these things is worth some expenditure, that is fine. But we should not do it because this South Jersey hack wants us to. It is also a slippery slope, we knew everybody and their brother would be looking to get their hooks into our B1G pie. And here they come. If we go for this one, many more will follow.

well srru-I hope that ru did not mess up here--there may be stuff going on that he knows about???

Or just the same old political BS that has gone on for years.

Seems like RU wasn't contacted about negotiating a better deal by the NJSIAA before the HS State Championship games were moved and now RU and the NJSIAA are in talks about keeping those games at the RAC.
Looks more like the NJSIAA dropped the ball and politicians blaming Rutgers for the mess, as usual

+1

I HIGHLY doubt this guy is in the loop with regard to Rutgers anything.

And we have been saying on the Issues Board since the B1G announcement it is only a matter of time until some NJ pol says, "you didn't build that!" as it pertains to B1G $$$.

Their hands will either be out or in RU pocket soon enough. Just watch.

Rutgers should not holding a charity to get these games, Im thinking that maybe the ticket prices that RU wanted to charge was too high

ru66 once again blaming RU immediately par for the course

Assemblyman Burzichelli serves in the same district as Senator Sweeney.
He is a double dipper; Mayor of Paulsboro and Legislature.
A Norcross creature.
'Nuff said.

They can start by not charging to park.

You have games with 2-3,000 people in the building . Why do you need to be charged to park your car ?

No other sites I've been to for Sectional Finals or Semi Finals do that .

It's silly.

Irish your point is fair and well taken. While some personnel may be needed to direct traffic a nominal charge would be acceptable but what was Rutgers charging to park. Better yet figure it in the facility rental charge. Just sit down and hammer things out. If we want $$ from the state for a basketball practice or other facility then there needs to be awareness of certain political and common sense tradeoffs. As they say....Just Do It!!!

well bac for someone who professes to never attack--here you go again--I never blamed RU for anything--you are a real problem on these boards and need to stop your bs

3 reasons why the NJSIAA, Rutgers must strike a deal
I don't disagree with his points, but there is a larger issue out there outlined above . That said we ought to be able to make something work I'd think.

"...$500 to put down the high school 3-point line."
What the...

$500??? That's nuts. I'd do it for 100 bucks (and probably 50 if you twist my arm).

bac you really have proven how you misrepresent and incite --you need an intervention--keep shoveling

I've been to games at all the locations and to me an Arena seating 3-4,000 is the better venue.

You rarely see more than that at HS games in New Jersey.

The Shore Conference Tournament Finals in both the Boys and the Girls filled Monmouth and that Arena seats about 4,000 . It had a great vibe to it and had a Championship feel. Put those games in a 9,000 seat Arena and it's very blah.

HS Sports are different now in this era. The day of the whole town and school driving 50-60 miles to see the team play are long gone.

I agree with the writer that Pine Belt is not centrally located for alot of schools but the people who go to these games are going to go there. Putting it at the RAC isn't going to change anything.

Yes to all of this.
