Ranney 67 Bergen Catholic 63

1st Monmouth County school to win it all since they went to TOC format.

Good game-----Ranney shot poorly from 3 but came back from 9 down at Halftime as they were too quick for BC.

I know the map says you’re right but I never really think of Ranney as a “Monmouth County” school.

Agreed but that's HS Athletics in NJ-----on both sides of the gender aisle.

How did Ranney get where they are? Were they a good team before these 2 stars came aboard? I don't remember hearing about this school back in the day.

I was at the game and the teams were even;y matched. The two high school All Americans for Ranney were very athletic and their skill set is similar to Mathis in driving to the basket.Their 3 point shooting was lacking which makes me wonder how effective they will be at Villanova and Florida. The center for Bergen Catholic was effective with baby hook shots and put backs.

Wonder if Ranney will go back to nothing next year like before the whole Rio AAU team enrolled or they will do something similar with other players. My guess is Wheeler transfers again because their is not much left to play with.

That would be a break for Ranney--------kid is a head case and almost personally cost them the game yesterday with his act.

There were no tears shed in Rumson when he left.

Manasquan is like a private school for basketball ..think they are pay tuition..no way they get all those d1 girls every year. TDirish, isn't Rumson like that too or is it only certain schools? I think Point Beach is like that.

I wouldn't know about that-----I know the Mabrey's reside in the district but one of the girls did transfer in from Colts Neck I believe. I think the girl headed to Md Masonius lives in district.

Point Beach lives on kids from out of district in hoops. It pisses a lot of people in the district off. Out of district rate is much cheaper than most school districts.

As I stated the girls hoop thing is just like the guys. St Rose gets 2 high end transfers at midseason-----Manchester gets one of the states best to leave Rutgers Prep. Ditto Saddle River Day-----and the state does zero.

It also helps pass the “smell” test that Point Beach is considered a very good school academically. Parents/kids and administrators can cite that as a reason too.(insert eye roll emoji guy here - lol)

Was told a few years ago they had 30 kids in the HS who reside in the Brick School District .

The good Girls Public HS teams, eg Franklin, Manasquan, Pt Pleasant, etc are all loaded w transfers as well.

It's up to the school they leave from, not the NJSIAA anymore, to fight it (costs money). NJSIAA has pretty much given up. They now run on a much tighter budget than they used to, and don't have the resources to investigate and go to court.

thats why a lot of these public teams that win the group championships aren't really true champions..I coach in Chatham and last year we got to Rutgers and lost the group 3 final to Nottingham ...We never have any transfers in and we lost a lot of frosh this year to privates (one played at Gill). We lost to New Providence this year and they won group 1 with all kids from their town.

Ramapo can't win their section ever and then they magically get a 6'11 kid from Northern Highlands to "transfer in" and guess what they win. Elizabeth barely has any kids from their town as we play down there in the summer so I know what was going on when Phil took the job. We know its not a level playing field with the private schools, but it should at least be level with the publics vs publics and we know its not anymore which is frustrating.
