Crushing home loss, Thiam suspension, Indiana surging - too much for one of the youngest teams in the nation to overcome. We exceeded expectations this year and I’m proud. Just can’t take any more today. Hope we win one game in the tourney so we can finish only two games below .500z

You have to be a sports masochist (or a gambler, perhaps) to bother turning on the TV for Rutgers basketball Big Ten road games. There is no margin for error. We win only if we play out of our minds.

It also requires the opponent to score below their scoring average .

Predicting 18-12 next year followed up by 20-10 the year after ... Plus a semifinal B1G appearance!

Didn't we just blow out Iowa by like 20 on the road?
What is our overall Big Ten road record since joining the Big Ten? How many of the losses have exceeded 10 points? Without 3-point shooters and among the worst foul shooting teams, it is rare that we win and almost as rare that the game has some drama or comeback potential. When we fall behind it is just a matter of how bad we get it in the end.

Well RU won 3 road games this year, probably pretty comparable to most of the league and pretty much every team out of the top 4 or 5 teams gets blown out on the road on occasion. Progress no?

This team is very young. They have improved tremendously since the start of the season. I, too, am bummed with these last two losses but the future is brighter than we've seen in years.

Penn State, Illinois and Indiana all have wins over the elite programs in the league. Right now as programs they seem to be a step above RU because RU hasnt shown the ability to knock off the big dogs. If RU wants to be a NCAA team they will have to find that next season

So what? That doesn't make up for two absolutely putrid games
Putrid? Not saying either game was a great all-around effort but we ran into the two hottest teams in the conference. We were a last second bucket away from people calling the PSU game one of the best of the season. And we ran into an absolute buzzsaw in Indiana, who was at home on senior day, in a game they needed to win to keep their tourney hopes alive. Obviously these games would’ve been nice to pick up but it doesn’t change the progress we’ve made this year. We’re one of the youngest teams in the nation and just a week ago everyone was super high on our future. This last week shouldn’t change that

Yep. That's the next step. Gotta find a way to beat some big boys to be a bubble team next sesson.

Cart before the horse. There's no path to jumping 3 to 4 steps, without step 1.

There's the next step of making sure we add and upgrade. The roster in its current state isn't capable of a huge leap to NCAA bubble status. RU needs 2 more quality players, whether starters or players that are clearly better than the current bench right now.

We have 2 in Mulcahy and Young. Need a minimum of 1 more difference maker on defensive end, specifically at forward.

I agree-----grooming or finding a replacement for Eugene O will be a priority for future success.

Chambers has also been there what 8 years and took him a few years to get the Carr Stevens class.

It wasnt that long ago most were lamenting we would be last(14) in league:flushed:
that Pike couldnt recruit:joy:
and we would never win a road game:scream:

Turns out :boom:we are NOT last in the Big Ten(we are 12th):boom:
[thumb2]4 freshmen stepped up[thumb2]...2 score regularly and one is a very decent rebounder
and :boxing:we won THREE road games. :boxing:

We have done better than most thought we would

Based upon he was a starter and contributor at U of Texas.

I’m sure there are some posters on this board that have seen Young in RU practices and can attest to his ability and what he can provide next season.

GO RU

With .500 not likely happening this year, that’s (.500) still the next step to take. We controlled our own destiny after Iowa and laid an egg. The moment was still too big for Rutgers. Being an NCAA team next year is a gigantic step.
Each step does not have to happen in separate seasons. We can finish over .500, beat a few big boys AND be a bubble team next season.

You’re right. We could’ve done it this year after placing last for what seems like forever. But we didn’t.

RUTGERS going from below .500 to NCAA the following season is a very very tall task.

Yes,Rutgers needs to multi task and achieve multiple goals in the same season.
