I don't understand how Laviano was the starter this year

For about 95 percent of this awful season I don't blame the coaches. There really is not enough talent to beat most teams on our schedule. However Illinois is a team we should at least compete with. What I do blame them for is giving laviano the starting gig. Everyone here knew from last season what we had with laviano- he is simply not a division 1 qb. What made the coaches think he would be good enough to be the starter? It's been obvious to me since at least the second game of the season when he looked average at best against HOWARD, that he was not the best qb on this team. Many people on this board dismissed the posters who wanted a qb change as morons because the "coaches know best." Now it's pretty clear to everyone that Gio and I still oden are better options.

It makes me question the judgement of the coaches that they would keep going with laviano. I still have faith in this staff, but I hoped they learned from this experience that you have to be able to make adjustments when something isn't working, which laviano clearly wasn't.

Two staffs found him to be the best choice.

Time to move on.

Perhaps if they had looked at film from last season ( which they didn't somewhat remarkably), they would have seen what we already knew. I lost confidence in Ash the second he named Laviano the starter before the season. Ash = Flood.

Ok so I can forgive naming him the starter at the beginning of the year, though I was not happy about it. However, it is hard to justify continuing to allow him to start after even week 2.

We are not at practice or behind the scene to see attitude in the weight room and class room etc.

TWO staffs found him to be the best option.

Do you want a third staff to name him starter?

No I'm okay with the second staff naming someone else the starter.

I can not disagree at this point.

Laviano had leadership qualities according to Ash and Flood. I guess that means more than talent and passing for a QB in a supposedly rather balanced offense.

Wow, didn't realize that they didn't even bother to look at last year's film on Laviano. That's surprising.

Coaches put a tremendous amount of decision making on who to play based on practice. I'm guessing he looks good and commands the offense when the lights aren't on.

I'm just happy the coaches pull him. Flood would have left him in the whole game.
