I just became a FORMER NJ Jet fan

Sure he knows what his job is and he's entitled to be wrong, too.

In your original post you said, "I cannot understand why the[y] wouldn't have chosen Connor Cook." It's perfectly understandable. The General Manager, who comes from a scouting background, likes the potential of Hackenberg more than Cook.

I do not hate PSU as passionately as others here and I am not influenced by the fact that Hackenberg is from PSU. But I too am giving up on the Jets. I will be rooting for Miami to smoke the Jets.

Hack might have been a victim of the type of offense he was in after BOB left Penn St and just didn't fit that type of system.
Could be a better fit as a pro, he was supposed to have superstar talent when he committed to Penn St .

Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com
>Hackbenberg heads to the NFL as Penn State's all-time leading passer -- 8,457 yards and 48 touchdowns -- with 38 starts in 38 career games<
But this CBS evaluation isn't very faltering when it comes to his weaknesses

Why are the Jets squeezing Fitzgerald?

They have no other option at this point - think he wants 14 mill - they offered 7 mill - call it 10 mill and away you go?
He also has no other options. $3 million to him is $3 million they can't spend on some other player.

Essy jet haters, fitz had better yr than eli, geno gone after this season. Petty and hack are projects. I would pick petty but who knows.

Kyle Brady redux

LOL, or maybe Blair Thomas.

I don't care if Hackenberg playing well would make Franklin look bad, Franklin will be gone from PSU soon enough anyway, and Hackenberg is one player I will never root for to have any success. He is the main PSU recruit who basically said he didn't give a f*ck about the coverup of a serial pedophile, it was all cool with him.

For the record, this pick has very little to do with Fitzpatrick and far more to do with the quality (or lack thereof) of Geno and Bryce Petty. I still think the Jets sign Fitz for 1-2 years and they will probably now cut Geno or something. I don't particularly like Hackenburg either, but Mccagnan has done very little wrong since he's been here so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. 8 QBs in 11 years though, sheesh.

On the bright side, he does have all the tools to succeed. Hopefully they bring him on slow and not right into the fire - a couple years as an understudy, then let him loose. He just might surprise a lot of folks.

That's an idiotic and super immature statement to make. Hack never "basically" said anything remotely like that. you need to get over yourself already. I'm embarrassed for you.

Mike Maccagnan has been nearly flawless as the Jets GM ... until now.

I mean, you have got to be kidding me. I don't give a rats @ss that Hackenberg played at Penn State. I care that he has the mobility of a rock, and while he has a canon for an arm, he's just as likely to throw a nice pass as he is to throw one 3 feet over his receivers head. They just showed video from his pro day where he did just that several times. No pass rushers. Just him wearing shorts and a t-shirt and his receivers and he misses the dude by 3 feet.

And, oh yeah. By they way. Nothing like drafting a player with an attitude problem for a position that requires a player to be a team leader.

I tell ya. You can't make this stuff up.
All I know is I'm happy with my Raiders getting Connor Cook in the 4th round. Cook may have personality issues, but as a competitor I'll take Cook over Hackenberg any day of the week. What were the Jets thinking????

Ditto here. I like Carr, but getting a guy like Cook in the 4th round is a pretty shrewd move -- get a talented QB at a fraction of the price you'd normally have to pay.

I know there's the "he wasn't voted captain" issue... but seriously, did anyone expect to see him fall to the 4th round?

I must be the only Jets fan that doesn't hate this pick. It's a late 2nd Rd pick. Better upside than most QBs available. Was going to be a high 1st Rd pick until Franklin came around. High risk- high reward pick in my book.

I don't hate it either. Reason being he hasn't played a snap yet. The Jets OC Chan Gailey is highly regarded as a QB coach. Hack looked like a stud his freshman year under Bill O'Brien, an actual NFL coach. He regressed under the snake oil salesman James Franklin, behind one of the worst offensive lines in college football.

Possibly, though that isn't even my point. Hackenberg is not someone I want to see do good, I hope that his NFL career crashes and burns.
