The object of college football is to win games. I don't want a team full of criminals that embarasses the school, but I really don't care too much about having the best APR or the lowest number of player arrests. I know that's not a popular view point around here, but its the truth. Low APR and low arrests are nice talking points, but are really only things to help in recruiting and make the fans feel good. And even at that the top recruits and their families/handlers don't care anyway.
Its hard enough as it is. Hard enough to become competitive in a major conference without and history or tradition, with poor to very poor donor support, poor to very poor state and school support, and without any built in competitive advantages. Hard enough to simply do it straight up without cheating. If we are going to add layers of difficulty on top, like that we must become successful, but we must do it with only high character recruits, without any academic risks, and without any kids from questionable backgrounds, you may as well give up on ever winning anything of any significance, because it is highly unlikely to happen.
