Agreed bac. While its somewhat an issue in football it’s not nearly to the degree of basketball. It used to be awesome watching kids come in as lanky 6’7 frosh and grow into the men and B1G defensive player of the year like caleb. Now its just every single year is a group of brand new mercenaries who we see play for 4 months and then those guys are out and new mercenaries are in.and thats why my interest may be waning as NIL becomes embeded in college sports. At some point its not fun and Im in no interest in watching an arms race of paying for players to dribble a ball at a school
It’s still Schiano’s excuse, 5 years in. So “still early” probably means first 10 years. We're almost a full third of the way through the season. When does "still early" end?
This the basketball boardIt’s still Schiano’s excuse, 5 years in. So “still early” probably means first 10 years.
I know. Was defining “early” for RU overall. So for basketball, we’re just at the Big Bang first split second of existence. Nothing at all to worry about given this fanbase’s extreme tolerance. This the basketball board
They're surrounded by the 7th leading scorer in the nation last year, JWill who was very good last year, 2 40% 3 point shooting seniors, the player of the year in the NEC last year, a 6'11, 270 lb. monster who has played better than most expected, and D. Grant, the best high school player in the state of Michigan. Oh, and 4* L. Summerville. This is about coaching and only coaching. Pike makes GS look like Knute Rockne.Pike was gifted 2 5 stars and didn't surround them with a good cast. I realize NIL matters, but he didn't do a good job with this team. Harper and Bailey can't do it alone as witnessed today. Hopefully they aren't regretting their decision to come here. I surely wouldn't blame them.
Hardly. Did Georgia attempt an indoor 59 yard FG on the last play of the first half tonight ? Or did Kirby realize even in perfect conditions it’d be unmakeable. GS can’t outcoach the cooling fans behind the benches in early September. They're surrounded by the 7th leading scorer in the nation last year, JWill who was very good last year, 2 40% 3 point shooting seniors, the player of the year in the NEC last year, a 6'11, 270 lb. monster who has played better than most expected, and D. I almost forgot about that insanely stupid decision, but at least GS teaches the fundamentals of his sport. That is why he has turned out a bunch of pros.Hardly. The only benchmark for success is making the real NCAA tournament. Making the big ten tournament is not an achievement. Are you talking BIG or NCAA Tournament?
I agree, but in 2006 I remember going to Queens and celebrating a regular-season ending victory over St. John's that allowed us to participate in the Big East tourney. Douby scored 36 points. The only benchmark for success is making the real NCAA tournament. Making the big ten tournament is not an achievement.
I'm sorry but get schianos name out of your mouth. He's bringing us to a postseason now 2 years in a row after a decade drought. What the **** has pikiell done for us the last 3 years? It’s still Schiano’s excuse, 5 years in. So “still early” probably means first 10 years.
Think we can all agree If we don't make the tournament this year it's considered a failure?
I mean landing 5 stars doesn't matter. The programs goal is to go to the NCAA tournament and nothing else, correct? I'd rather land less highly paid guys that gel and actually get us to March basketball that actually matters rather than landing two of the best guys and not being able to build a team around them (we paid Martini? Seriously?)
Some might say "well perception wise we are good cause we landed these top guys!". If we get two of the top three recruits in the nation and don't make the tournament, it's going to be a national embarrassment.
I pray we make it. I would stay off these boards and stick to football if I truly didn't care about the basketball program. But hey, If we don't make it this year, it'll be 3 years straight without a tournament appearance, immediately following one of our most impressive teams in the history of our program being a one and done appearance in the play in tournament.
He has always blown smoke up your asses lol. They overhypes his supporting cast every year lmfao.I disagree with automatically assuming 2 lottery picks gets you in the tournament. However, blowing smoke up our asses regarding the talent that was brought in to compliment them is pathetic. That, and the inability to coach them is disappointing. I’m not giving up however as growing pains were expected but there is a lot of work to do.
3 page thread full of likes for my post. Choke on it.TLDR
Can someone ban this guy already?

So let me get this straight. You see a 3 page thread full of real discussion and your contributions are "tldr" and "you have a 2 inch dick" and I'm the one that should be bannedTough to choke on 2 inches
Ooh. Postseason with what, 81 other teams ? That’s a yardstick for losers.I'm sorry but get schianos name out of your mouth. He's bringing us to a postseason now 2 years in a row after a decade drought. What the **** has pikiell done for us the last 3 years?
Without schiano we would have literally nothing of note to watch. You people are seriously inept.

It's a winning season and a shot at progress with a trophy in the case. If a coach doesn't get to the playoff in football in 5 years they should be fired? That's a serious take?Ooh. Postseason with what, 81 other teams ? That’s a yardstick for losers.
Mr. Hobbs and the board of governors' ridiculous decision for that long of an extension have made the coach untouchable for years unfortunately. He just got a 4 year extension thru 2030 with guaranteed salary of $16 million. Good luck with that.
No one here expects or requires playoffs. But going to a below is a weak-ass accomplishment to hang your hat on.It's a winning season and a shot at progress with a trophy in the case. If a coach doesn't get to the playoff in football in 5 years they should be fired? That's a serious take?
Is pike going to have a winning season this year? Did we have one last year? We have had one of the weakest OOC's known to mankind the last few years. And yet you'll watch this team with your thumb up your ass and say things are just fine while bashing schiano. Typical.
Having a QB, bringing in top 35 classes, cultivating coordinators who move up, putting guys in the NFL, finishing the year 3-1 with one win that should have been ours vs a ranked opponent (not on the players..proud of them in that game)..anyone that can't see progress on the football side of things is literally a blind fool. Anyone that cannot see the literal rot in our basketball program is also blind. No one here expects or requires playoffs. But going to a below is a weak-ass accomplishment to hang your hat on.
I think the idea that we can't afford to buy Pike out with $16,000,000 remaining to be paid him over five years is absurd. We're getting over $400,000,000 million from the Big 10 during that time. Does RU have the balls is the real question.Mr. Hobbs and the board of governors' ridiculous decision for that long of an extension have made the coach untouchable for years unfortunately.
No accountability and no consequences for public servants burning through millions.

Says someone who, a year or two ago, gave Pike credit for the number of times he made the Big 10 tournament. Now that's a BIG LOL.lol u

Shelby may be related to Chow. Shelby thinks Schiano is stealing salary and will never reach B1G second tier, and Chow thinks the same about Pikiell.I think the idea that we can't afford to buy Pike out with $16,000,000 remaining to be paid him over five years is absurd. Well I don’t think it’s wrong to point out the measuring stick for success in football is much lower than hoopsIt's a winning season and a shot at progress with a trophy in the case. If a coach doesn't get to the playoff in football in 5 years they should be fired? That's a serious take?

We go to a bowl 2 years in a row and all of the sudden everyone is like "well this is the ceiling" despite the fact we were a few lucky balls away from more even this year. It's nonsense. People just want 10 wins as soon as we have our roster back to barely serviceable and ignore that the recruiting classes have improved every yearWell I don’t think it’s wrong to point out the measuring stick for success in football is much lower than hoops
If we go 7-5 and 8-4 every year schiano won’t get fired
7-5 8-4 equivalent in hoops is the NIT… which would get a coach fired if it was repeated year after year
