He won 7 games in a row his first year. Was he honest enough to say "holy crap, I'm not even trying and I'm winning". Or maybe he arrogantly thought, "ofc I'm winning, I knew I could do this".

We realize now he was simply coasting on what Schiano had built, and his own personal brand of disaster hadn't had time to dismantle the program. But I do sometimes wonder what was going through his head.

I really get angry when I see posts like this . I am still perplexed that our ad and fans at the time thought flood was a good hire and good retain after his first year. If I only I were the Rutgers ad in 2012.

I wonder if cf knows what's the deal with airplane peanuts?

The op makes the assumption that he who shall remain nameless actually had thoughts. While the media is focused on Hillary's email, I want to see what was contained in overabundance of water's gameday notepads.

Give the guy a break (and drop the posts). He know he was not a B1G coach. If someone new came in, he was gone. So he took the job and the big bucks, gave it his unqualified best ( he does have a family to support) and hung on until the end. You might do the same thing in your careers.

I wouldn't, I've got enough pride to try and do a good job when I'm given a task.

Would my win percentage be any higher than Flood's? Not likely, but my car would be the last one to leave the building. And I wouldn't have tolerated thugs running amok.

This. What angers me most about him is the off the field stuff. We had a squeaky clean rep as a program for years and he managed to destroy that in quick fashion by not exercising better oversight over his players. I can forgive the on the field stuff but not the decay of our values as a program.

Most RU FB fans don't think highly of the Flood years , but since this is just another thread that will bring the inevitable bashes, I'll put in another side of KF that isn't mentioned instead of the same old Flood no good stuff:

To Flood's credit, it is hard to be so incompetent both on and off the field. Most coaches only manage one of the two before they are fired. But he hung around long enough to accomplish both. On some level, you have to acknowledge that.

But years from now many RU fans will just look at his W-L record and see 27-24
and think it was his 4-8 (1-7) 2015 record that got him fired.
They might just wonder if RU pulled the plug too soon because they also saw RU was co:Big East champions his first year at the helm

I don't feel Kyle was a good HC and it was best to let him go,.
I'm just putting this in because of all the Flood bashing .
Years from now Flood's w-l record at RU will still be on the positive side ,
even though we know Flood's handling of the RU FB program was a negative in reality.

He thought that there was so many clowns who would support him " no matter what" .
Dude hit the Powerball because idiots on here backed him to the bitter end.

Do you seriously think anything happened "because idiots on here backed him to the bitter end?" That's insane. This is an administration/donor/boards thing. NOBODY here gave Flood a job, nor did anyone here not fire him.

And, as I've said before, when exactly do you fire him? After he wins our first conference title? (Yes, I know it was with Schiano's players, but Schiano had Schiano's players for years and didn't win one.) The following year, when we're .500 and go to a bowl? Our first Big Ten year, when people for some reason went apeshit because we did better than expected despite only being 3-5 in the league and barely beating the worst Michigan team in our lifetimes to do it?

No, no and no. There just wasn't cause. So he got the fourth year, which started off awful with the arrests, continued awful with his Princeton meeting and intervening in player grades, and continued awful with 4-8.

Look, he was a debacle, but there was no legit cause for firing him until early in his fourth season. So I don't know how "idiots backing him" made a damn bit of difference.

Maybe Whitebus is just sorta angry because so many on this board still support Flood? And I agree with him, the support Flood still gets is maddening.

What does that have to do with anything? You are SUPPOSE to love your kids! I hope you are not trying to give him credit what what everyone else does. Talk about setting the bar low. It also doesn't excuse him from being really terrible at his job and unfit to be a HC.

This is the only thing Flood as done right:joy:

Never said he should be excused, just with all the constant bashing of everything Flood felt putting in a good point might be nice.
He was a lousy coach and made mistakes in judgement off the field, but he is human and that point needs to be stressed among all the responses agreeing he was a bad HC causing the FB program regress under his command.

No need to get upset if something is posted that doesn't put Flood in a negative light, but only shows a side of him we never think about when attacking Kyle Flood.
Making someone look like a decent person isn't setting the bar low on his coaching ability.

Come on man... Flood made MILLIONS during his time at Rutgers. He and is family are going to be far better off than most people on this board. But, if you want to feel sorry for him, go right away. But he can never work another day and it won't matter he is set for life and then some.

if I ever gave a "kyle flood best try" at my job I would be fired immediately. not staying and putting in the work in the office. cutting corners and doing things that are not allowed. not being able to handle the shitstorm that ensues.

No offense, but any finer points Flood may have had are immaterial to his having a horrible run as the RU HC. Why should it be stressed that he was human? We are all human, should Flood get a medal for being able to tie his shoes when he got dressed? Nobody gives me props for being able to get dressed by myself, or anything else we all have to do.

Nothing personal against you MADHAT, but there are several persistent Flood apologists on the RT, and their efforts can grind on a guy.
